Not sure if this belongs here, aha.

But today I saw my pdoc because I'm experiencing a whole lot of unpleasant symptoms, which long story short, I think are probably ADHD related. I've been diagnosed with everything else but the treatments have never worked. At the moment I'm being treated for BPD with zero improvement from two antidepressants and therapy.

Anyway I brought up that I'm distressed about forgetting things and I'm constantly messing up in every area of my life. My pdoc said they could send me for a second opinion since their specialty isn't ADHD, however...

They also added on "don't worry about an illness label. Let's just label you as a Sam.", which really bothered me because it struck me as dismissive. I've had this exact same attitude from therapists in the past because I'm in the "too hard basket" and I'm not really ill. The forgetfulness, anger, depression and constant screw ups are just my personality, right?

Am I taking these comments the wrong way because I'm borderline or are they actually dismissive of my concerns? I don't know any more... I want to say something about this but I feel like I'll just get brushed off or labelled as 'extra crazy' because I distorted what was said.

I would be bothered by the comment, simply because he's a pdoc. He prescribes meds. That literally does not work without a label. Different problems need different meds.

So if you bring it up, maybe frame it a bit like that? Tell him your meds don't work, and you'd just like a second opinion to be sure? It is of course possible that their diagnosis is correct. Meds often do not work for BPD. But even then, better rule out everything else before assuming it's not that.

It does seem like you do have a lot of issues that you would really like real help with. If you have BPD then all of them could be attributed to this.
Have you looked into DBT(dialectical behavioral therapy)? It is the only form of therapy that has statistically been shown to help with BPD.
Just a thought. I hope you get help you want and need.

Take care.
