**trigger warning**

I watched the video, it was so sad. The school covered it up for over 30 years. He sexually assaulted these children-it is horrifying that no one helped these kids.

Also think that turning a blind eye to abuse aka covering it up is as bad of a crime as the abuse itself. Obviously, the abuser has problems, likely a pedophile. But what excuse do those covering it up have?

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
In what could be Hawaii's largest-ever settlement in a personal injury case, Kamehameha Schools will pay out $80 million to survivors and their families in a sex abuse scandal that's rocked the prestigious private school.

The victims were all sexually assaulted between the 1950s to the 1980s by prominent Honolulu psychiatrist Dr. Robert Browne, who served as a consultant for the private school.

And the lawsuit mentions several examples of boys reporting abuse to school officials.

"They made no effort, in fact they went the direct opposite direction, they sought to cover this stuff up," Lee Loy said.
Some of these boys were abused weekly in the so-called therapy for years.

Its really sickening to hear both the doctor and school be referred to as "prestigious ".

At any rate, glad this stuff is coming to light and am hoping these reports will help deter systematic abuse.
Thanks for this!

I saw the headline elsewhere, and decided not to read further. I'm at a point in my life where I've had more than enough of abuses of power being so commonplace. Chains need to be yanked in this world, high wide and repeatedly!! Enough is enough.

As a CSA survivor with a family perpetrator, these stories help me understand why I stayed silent, why I was afraid to tell. They make me feel more normal.

The survivors who sue in these kinds of mass cases, like the Catholic Church scandal, are courageous in telling their stories. Breaking their silence will help children stay safer in the future.

It breaks my heart that you were hurt in therapy! I know it is none of our business but is there any chance you could share more? No pressure, just offering an opportunity to help educate and inform us of potential abuses.

Thanks,

We had a sexual relationship in which he exploited me and took advantage of me by taking me to random men he found online to watch them have sex with me.

My former psychiatrist was the sexual abuser in my case. He wasn’t prestigious that I know of but he was respected in the community.

Some of my current medical professionals have commented to me that this sort of thing doesn’t go on anymore...therapists or doctors dont sexually abuse their clients anymore.it’s a dead, dated issue.

Articles like this one are undeniable proof that it does still occur...

I appreciate that you shared this. I know how hard it can be to share trauma.

This is horrible! I am so sorry that you went through that!

Did you ever follow up with complaints? How are you in terms of recovery from it all?

It is heartbreaking.

Thanks,
HD7970ghz

Yea he lost his license for ever and was recently arrested for assault on a female in the town near me. I've never seen him since the last night I chose to, thank God. Obviously it was rough but I'm getting better each day

Thank you for sharing,

It is so heartbreaking to hear you went through this. Have you been able to find safety in therapy since then? Have you been able to heal? Did you file complaints?

Thanks

I’m learning that ‘healing’ is a process. I don’t feel healed. I can’t imagine what that would feel like. I believe I may have healing experiences but I doubt I will ever feel completely healed. I don’t believe there will ever be closure. I doubt closure exists...at least for me.

I began therapy with a female psychologist at the same time I was being exploited by the male psychiatrist. Idiot that I was, I trusted her right away but she turned out to be a wonderful therapist. I had to move to my current state five years later. It took me fifteen years to agree to try to find a supportive therapist here. My current therapist is a Psy.D. (To help you keep them straight). She’s pretty good, too, and I’m grateful I found her.

I did worry, for awhile, that the Psych.D. might get too attached to me, be ‘in-love’ with me, whatever. Apparently, we can’t be too careful. But I brought it up with her and we cleared the air. She assured me that she will not be re-enacting the exploitive abuse of the male psychiatrist.

Yes, I filed every complaint I could think of....civil, criminal, licensing board...I also filed a complaint with Medicare and Medi-Cal.

And...
The exploitive psychiatrist had his medical license revoked in two states, back in the late 1990’s.

A few months ago I found the exploitive psychiatrist advertising as an online psychiatrist/physician on three online medical/psychological sites. I reported those, too. The sites eventually removed him from their membership.
He is a sly mf. But I’m on it!
