Last time I saw my T I felt so nauseous I thought I was going to vomit. I didn't, but I definitely eyed the garbage can next to me more often than usual. I didn't feel sick for most of the day but I think that since it was a harder session than usual my body didn't know how to react. There have been times that I've stood up too quickly when I'm leaving and everything goes black but I just pretend it didn't happen and try to make my way out of the office and down the hallway without falling over or passing out.

Have any of you ever gotten sick in the middle of a session? Or fainted?

Nope but I get sick before every single session even though I like going

I asked my T before if anyone has ever thrown up in session there and he said no.

I would just dash out and run to the bathroom if I really needed to
Thanks for this!

I had a coughing fit once, which was embarrassing.

I think nausea can definitely be brought on by stress. Everything going black when you stand up fast could be a sudden drop in blood pressure. My understanding is that can be made worse by BP medication and simply by getting older. Also my doctor told me to drink more when I complained about it. It might be worth bringing up with your doctor.

I felt really sick driving to a T session last weekend but was OK. There was another one about a month ago where I had to take a cab there (long story) and felt kinda carsick, so I asked to use the bathroom at one point. I thought I'd have to use the main building one that was kinda far from T's office, but he said I could use the one for staff right across from his office. I was like, "Wait, there's a bathroom right there?" He said yes, that normally it's only for other T's there, but he owns the office space (he rents it out to other T's), so he can decide who uses it. I ended up being OK, but I've felt better in future sessions knowing the bathroom is right there if needed.

Edited to add: I've also had panic attacks in session with current T, ex-T, and marriage counselor where I felt really shaky and light-headed, heart racing, etc.

More than once on the way home I really thought I would get sick, which is stressful in itself as that is a major phobia of mine. It was definitely stress related and I really wish I had the guts to ask my T if we could go outside.

I've had one panic attack where we had to stop and I had to put my head on my knees and focus entirely on breathing and trying to calm down. Because I truly felt like I might be having a heart attack, that concern took precedence over being in session, which was kind of a blessing really.

Mine too, would be interested to hear your stories about it.
I’ll start a thread and see if anything interesting comes of it.

Sometimes I also wonder how my T would react in that situation. If I just fainted in session I don’t know if she would go get help, I guess I’ll probably find out at some point (based on how often I feel lightheaded and dizzy)

I go to a trauma therapist who also does EMDR. I have told him I thought I was going to throw up in session before and he calmly put the trash can by my leg. No big deal for him and I'm sure he has dealt with it before. All his trash cans have bags in them. Luckily I did not get sick though. I would have died of embarrassment.

I haven't done it (yet, anyway), but my T has had it happen. She seemed pretty nonchalant about it. I'm guessing that's part of why her little trash can on the floor next to the couch has a plastic liner in it.

Trigger Warning.......

.......

Office etiquette could be in order here. Make sure you plan for that type of safety sit in the nearest most part of the office away from tables ledges or anything where a faint will be unsafe for faciliate abreactive moments. There have been many of days where I thought I would be on the ground from my alters associating ptsd moment. Embarrassing vomits and things said as if those moments are actually now, it does really happen being a trauma survivors...Cramps altered states of consciousness whoozy moment disorientation. It is often good to 10 to 1 out of a session especially if locked and loaded with moments . I can also make sure you go over how to exit the bus number especially if newly associating things.
