I have been trying to find a good therapist for a while and I am considering making an appointment soon that will my third attempt. The 2 previous therapists were professional but I just didn't click with them and began to dread the sessions. Both were male.

In general day to day life I have always found it much easier to talk about feelings with my female friends and I feel like I should try and find a female therapist this time.

Do you think it is ok for a male to specifically request a female therapist?
Thanks for this!

Yep, I did when I wanted a guy. It's up to you. Lots of people have preferences

I think it is fine to prefer a female therapist. My husband prefers female doctors. He thinks they are easier to talk to. He says that there is sometimes a little bit of male-male posturing or competitiveness or something. He feels like he has to be "tough" with other men and so would definitely prefer sharing feelings with a woman.

Absolutely. And they should have no problem with that request, either.

Yes, preferring a particular gender is very common.

I'm female and prefer a male therapist. It's perfectly fine.

Absolutely! It is very common to request a therapist of a specific gender for lots of reasons -- maybe trauma, maybe attachment issues, maybe just a personal preference. I requested a female therapist because I find it very hard to connect with men in general due to past trauma.
