After nearly a decade of working together, T & I are entering into the digital age and he's sending me his invoices via email.

I am finding myself getting a bit peeved about his sign off and the stiff formality of it. So I'm asking how do your T's do it?

I found this blog and found it amusing. TBH I would be fine with 'Best wishes', there's a bit of warmth to it without being inappropriate. I did get BW once but since then he has been signing off with 'Regards', which frankly, feels like... .

Usually, he doesn't sign them at all

Sometimes he does with just his first name

Sometimes he will say "HUGS" ...hasn't in a while though

Usually just her name (she started doing this when I began addressing her by her first name. Until then, it was the following phrases with no name) but she’s also signed off: see you soon, take care, talk soon. My favorite is take care.
Thanks for this!

faithfully,
first name last name

My T is a pDoc, I do not get the Dr. or the DO as part of her signature.

Yes the faithfully irks me too. I do get the see you soon, or looking forward to seeing you in the body of the email.
Thanks for this!

The woman used her first name. I used just my last name with her. I did not want to encourage her attempts at familiarity. The last email where she wrote to tell me the date of her retirement was signed "fondly" which I took as sarcasm.

You're not alone. Ice Queen also signs off with "Regards". It bothers the hell out of me but oh well one of the many reasons she shall remain known as Ice Queen.

When I first started seeing her, “Kind regards”.

Later, either nothing at all (most common) or “Thinking of you” or “My best”.

Starts with Dear and ends with.... Dumdumdum..... Love.
In the beginning (yrs ago) I analysed that inside out. Upside down.
Now I'm just familiar with her style. It's nice. Warming.

Always 'best wishes'. T1 was always 'kind regards'. I find it all pretty meaningless to be honest.

As I posted in Dear T the other day: "What are 'best wishes', anyway? Are they really the best of wishes? If they are, does that mean they're better than the last wishes you sent me, which at that time were the best, and you're beating your own record every time? The wishes must be really bloody good by now. It must be exhausting for you."

Mine just has an automatic signature that has
Sincerely,
FirstName LastName, degree/credentials
contact info

He has added a "Good luck!" or a "Have a good weekend!" (or in one infuriating case, when I was upset about his going out of town, "Have a fabulous week!"), but the actual signoff before his name is always "Sincerely." because it's his autosignature, I don't assign any meaning to it. It's actually probably better that way, so I don't think, "Wait, why did he sign it this way this time and a different way the other time?" Because that's totally what I would do...

Mine doesn't do emails, just texts. But there he usually either signs 'Until then, last name' (when we scheduled something via text), 'Greets, last name', just his last name, or doesn't sign it at all.
Thanks for this!

If I wasn't censoring myself, that's how I would sign off! That is exactly the sign off I use with those who are dear to me. Doesn't seem right in this setting, I wonder why?

Usually best wishes, but since I've started signing mine off "Love Echos" (last few weeks) he's started signing off "warm wishes".
Subtle, but I've noticed it.

Yeah, I never really thought about the meaning behind 'best wishes'. It just seemed a bit warmer than 'kind regards' but perhaps it's less meaningful. What does 'regards' mean anyway? Maybe it's a generational thing?

Do you think it's a generational thing? Perhaps they think they are being friendly? It's a step up from 'Yours sincerely' after all!

Only if we think it's not right.
After years of signing of that way. I'm still alive and well. So can't be wrong.
Its if we allow ourselves to accept it. I do.

I think they're both completely meaningless myself! T1 is about twenty years younger than current T, so definitely could be a generational thing going on... We'd have to do a quite specific poll to work that one out

She used to write "take good care" and then her name. She still does sometimes, but now she adds "hugs" or "sending love and hugs", or just "love" with her first name or initial. I didn't ask for her to sign "love". When she did for the first time, I asked if she made a mistake! She said "no." Of course we discussed what love means and doesn't mean in the context of our relationship.
Thanks for this!

Almost always “Thanks, [T’s first name].” She typically just emails to send an invoice for sessions; I submit the claim to insurance instead of her.

On a side note, I taught college classes for several years. I used to sign my emails “Regards, firstname” because I thought “Regards” seemed warm. Then a student mentioned one day that my “cold” email closing seemed incongruous with my warm personality in person. I guess perceptions differ on that one.
Thanks for this!
