I have been suffering from depression and my psychiatrist offered me a referral that he held in very high esteem stating the psychologist is very warm and all her patients really loved her.
I contacted the therapist for a session and I got a slot after 2 months, however, I felt a little better during those 2 months I could cope better and that led me to cancel in advance giving her notice which she said no problem. After 4 months I contacted the same therapist stating that I couldn't cope with depression and needed a session. I never heard from her. I received an email from her after 6 months (New years) stating that she wanted to open a new page and let's patch up for the new year and she was happy to offer me a session. I was very confused since I didn't know what she meant by patch up since nothing happened and she didn't reply for 6 months.
Anyway, after the first session we had scheduled another session. I show up on skype for the 2nd session, I was late for 7 minutes since I had trouble starting skype. However, when I logged in at 12:07 for 12:00 pm session she wouldn't take my skype call. When I tried calling her when she was online she rejected my call. I wrote to her that I apologise and I had trouble starting skype on my pc, there was no response. I emailed her at the same time there was no response despite her being online on skype. I try giving another ring which she happily rejected as well. I am usually on time and I didn't know what happened?! Given the history of unprofessionalism from her I was quite shocked since I haven't heard from her since and its been 2 weeks so far, I had never received an appointment for 3rd session. This has brought up a lot of abandonment and rejection and trust issues for me as I have no idea what had happened and why I was receiving silent treatment from this 'professional'. I feel I deserve an explanation from her side!

Hi and welcome to the forum I'm sorry this is happening and how you're feeling - this sounds quite odd from this therapist. Could you ask for another referral as this doesn't seem to be working ?

Thanks a lot for the welcome and your response! It is quite odd since I've never had anything like that happen to me in the past. I did reach out to another therapist as a prospective client keeping my fingers crossed, I'm hopeful I'll have a better experience with the new one 💓💓 have a nice day!

I'm sorry this happened. You absolutely deserve an explanation from this therapist. She behaved unprofessionally. However, I rather doubt you will get one, and even if you do, do you think that you'd be able to trust her again?

I think you should try to find someone else, because they aren't all like that.
Thanks for this!

Thankyou for your reply! I agree with you it is very unprofessional especially that she was online and rejecting my Skype calls (I double checked the appointment time and date as well just to make sure). I've sent an intake form to another therapist, fingers crossed

Well said! A search for an apology, if fruitful, will leave you in the same spot of having to search for someone better. I'm sorry this outcome was the one you had to deal with!!

This seems very strange. She should definitely apologise, although whether she will seems to be a different question as she seems quite erratic. I have the sense that maybe you dodged a bullet.
