debating with self. Press “send” or not..

I’m aware that this post is “all over the place” - it doesn’t “flow” and it “jumps about” .. right now I don’t have the time to fix that.

Btw the suggestion someone made about journaling and giving some of the journal entries to a therapist is a good one, thanks

If a doctor asks me now if “therapy has helped me” I would answer “yes”.

That insight occurred to me just now, (literally) because despite some .... the therapists I consulted were consistent in some areas, and at times, showed empathy.

This might possibly come across as sarcastic to some ..it isn’t.

(I’ve just realised this post may seem “ridiculous” if it does, so be it. I’m “fortunate” in that I haven’t been in hospital since ... for a very long time )

Also when I answered “no” the GP told me that none of their patients have been helped by therapy. Exact words. And this was a friendly and personable GP who, compared to some, I trusted for a while.

So I guess I might be able to get a referral now. But whether I want one (on the public system) is another matter No disrespect to the carers who care. I’m probably “atypical” and ........)

Hospitals scare the ..... out of me. (I guess I’m not that unusual there, “but” my anxiety is “extreme” )

This isn’t a post about hospitals, that is another reason, maybe the main reason, I couldn’t / wouldn’t consult another T affiliated (sp) to the “public system”

If I had less “other stuff” which I’m not going into, I would phone a therapist tomorrow

For now I’m “getting by” - I find I am finding new insights which helps.

I think it's good your gaining insight.I wouldn't think twice about posting if it helps and no post is ridiculous.

I have had three previous GP’s that have said therapy has no benefit. One of them said if his own sister asked him his opinion he would advise her not to go.

Many GP’s know very little about mental health issues and less about therapy. IMHO.

My first thought was that it's odd that GP's would think/say that therapy is ineffective. But I guess if their tool is medication, they might not see it understand the virtues of therapy.

I feel very lucky that my GP practically begged me to go to therapy, and always checks in to see if I still am in therapy when I see her.

I haven’t had good luck with therapy. Maybe I just wasn’t doing the work. I don’t know.

The very first once I saw as a young teenager called my self harm stupid and I've been shocked by some comments from a therapist who taught my psychology class.

I've met two really nice psychiatrists and 1 very awful one who just pushed more medication on me without really offering any real support.
Thanks for this!

I had a former friend who's a psychiatric nurse tell me that too :/

That said, I've a relatively OK GP, luckily. I was discharged from my psychiatrist to him.
