Just as a we sat down to start EMDR the fire alarm went off. T and I were like you have got to be kidding. She had never heard the alarm before so she went inoto the hall to check with other therapists. It was decided we should evacuate. She T went into the stair well and it was FULL of dust as some was cleaning in the and the vacuum really backed up. So that were likely the cause of the alarm and the T's decided we shouldn't go there...but should use elevator to get out. There were 4 T's and 2 clients (One being me) after some discussion T and I decided to ignore the alarm. Most of the others agreed. So we went into her office and proceeded...then a fire truck arrived. T and I discussed it again. I told her I was fine staying but if she wanted to Eva hate I understood and was fine with it. T said said she was okay with staying. However her body language told me otherwise. So I told her she seemed very nervous..so we should go out. She said she didn't feel there was a safety issue but was nervous because ahe wasn't following the rules. Then she said now that she had me put a name to her feelings she could let it go. She we went on with the seasion... I am glad she showed hee humanistic side...although for a moment I felt like the T

At least for a moment, you were functioning as the T!

Good for you!

I think it is best to take all fire alarms seriously.

I'd be wanting to get out of there as fast as possible if it was me. I don't like high pitched noises and am terrified of fire to the point where I can't even watch fire on the telly in case it sets the rest of the house on fire

Had we not l known the cause of the alarm (a lot of dust from vacuuming in a small hallway) I would have been the first one out of the building and dragging T with me.

In her office, the loud noise wasn't that loud. Plus I work in a hospital so the alarms are fairly common and being the type of unit I work on we can't just vacate the building. I can block out the high pitch noise after assessing the situation and dafety.
