I wonder if Ts have a secret trophy room where they celebrate and commemorate all the patients they've cured?

I'm not sure if it's a physical room but I do believe that every good T remembers most of their clients from time to time and genuinely cares wether they are better or worse.

I think like in other relationships, it probably depends on the length of treatment, severity of the problem etc, but yes I do believe they feel good and proud when their client improves.

And here I thought the title meant a room where clients placed the bagged heads of therapists and mounted them on the wall.

I think therapists often think they are a lot more successful than they really are -so I do believe they congratulate themselves a lot more than is justified. I don't believe therapists cure anything. I don't even believe most people need curing.

When I read the title, I thought of an award ceremony, like the Oscars, but for therapists, and the “trophy” would have a tissue-box shape.

Okay, I’m done

My therapist has two positive reviews online--like a public trophy room!

Though she also has two really bad reviews, which I unfortunately agree with. I guess boundaries have never been a strength of hers...

But she also told me she has a previous patient who is a very famous novelist. I don't know if she cured him of anything, but she seemed impressed by herself for treating a famous person before he was famous-- I think her earnest goal was to suggest that I'd, too, become one of her famous clients. But instead of flattering me, it stressed me out a little!

I do know of a therapist who thinks they cure a client. They believe they guide a client to better life but not cure.

I was wondering the opposite of stopdog’s idea- I thought the trophy room was a place therapists mounted the heads of clients or taxidermy in scary poses. The bpd client in a grizzly bear pose for example (t’s tend to dramatize the bpd patient is all I mean by that)

If there isn't an actual room in their house/office, there is definitely one in their head where they go and congratulate themselves on a job well done. Huh, maybe that's where they spend their vacation?!

I don't think most ts see mental illness as something that can be cured. Like most professionals in all fields I'm sure they have people they feel good to have helped, whether or not they imagine this as a trophy I do not know. For confidentiality reasons they can't keep too much personal info on clients. Thanks for a funny thread, I could always use a laugh.

I just remembered my therapist would often say "I'm damn good at what I do" or "I'm a damn good therapist." Little trophies from the trophy room in her head!
