So I started seeing a male t which is completely new to me!
That’s not a problem, this t is very peculiar, I have three sessions so far and in session one he hypnotised me, session 2 he did reiki on me, session 3 he hypnotised me again. This is supposed to be talk therapy so I am baffled. |

So great to hear from you! That is really extreme-sounding. Did he do goals with you, and informed consent etc about how he works? I couldn't detect your overall feeling about him- if you're bemused but kind of like him or if he just seems too woo woo?

You know something, I actually don’t know what to make of him! He is definitely woo woo! He is very funny, kinda odd! Very small and bald! The funny thing is we never worked on goals and these would definitely not be my goals. We haven’t really talked that much, it feels like he doesn’t want to talk and puts me straight in the bed! He never touches me but my eyes are closed and I can see his hands waving all over the place. I miss old t! |

Reiki is like an energy therapy- it takes away negative energy and replaces it with positive energy. I don’t think I am comfortable with this either. It feels wrong. I am always really tired after it and teary. |

That all sounds kind of weird. Did you check his credentials to make sure he's actually a licensed therapist?

i actually kind of like reiki. i think i would do it if my t knew how, but not in the first session as trust is required bc your eyes are closed and the practitioner is moving around. i found it to be calming with the right person.

I've heard others say they were tired after being hypnotized, I've never experienced being hypnotized myself. I'm not keen to do so either. But I know a few people online who said they were helped by being hypnotized.

Ick, I would not be comfortable with that at all. I do not believe in reiki and would be disturbed at a therapist hypnotizing me in the very first session.

Has he explained any of this to you? Why is he hypnotizing you, what is the purpose, what is he trying to accomplish? If you're not comfortable I would definitely say so.

Probably the best T I ever had (who was a LCSW with lots of other initials after his name) did hypnotism, and he may have started at the beginning to see how I responded. It was so long ago, but I remember that he was the most trauma informed T I've met. Unfortunately, I could not continue therapy with him.
I'd be freaked out if someone I sought for talk therapy surprisedly tried that on me. Curious-why did you proceed? |

He did the hypnotherapy to convince me there was nothing medically wrong. This is confusing to me because the reason I was going to him was to discuss my medical issues which we never did. It’s kind of invalidating and made me quite angry.
The second time he hypnotised me was to help me with confidence issues. Again, something I feel I don’t need help with hence the confusion and miscommunication. |

He had actually been an accredited therapist for over twenty years. I am dumbfounded. A few times in the recent session I felt him run up against me when I was being hypnotised. I couldn’t open my eyes to look at which part was rubbing but I had a good idea with out seeing. My eyes were heavy and I couldn’t physically open them! |

I have six free sessions with him through work! I would never have picked him as my therapist other than this reason. |

Yes, it’s through the EAP scheme. He said today he thinks I am fine and don’t need anymore sessions. I wonder how he knows that when we never speak. I am finding this whole experience very peculiar. I am thinking of going back to ex t next week because st least I can talk to her and she lets me talk. |

I definitely wouldn't like this at all. He doesn't seem like a normal licensed therapist to me. I guess you went to therapy in order to talk and learn some coping skills?

If it were me, I would try a completely new T of your choosing. Shop around a bit if you can. Many offer a free first session (or phone call). I would also consider informing my employer of what they are paying for. Sounds very strange, and borderline non-consensual which would contravene the ethical guidelines of UK professional bodies.

I just wanted somebody to talk to about everything that has happened at work! I know for a fact he is accredited and legit but I feel really uncomfortable about this. |

I am seriously thinking of just going back to ex t. At least I know where I stand with her. It is very non consensual. I even said please don’t do reiki on me because I have a bad reaction to it every time. The last time I had it done I cried for three days solid. He said he would only give me good energy. So I let him do it. I also let him tell me there is nothing medically wrong with me when it is a fact there is something wrong and that’s why I am having so much trouble at work. |

Omg please report this to your employer and possibly some other institution that is responsible for ethical issues.

I am not sure how to proceed I mean I feel like he is doing something wrong but how do I prove that! Maybe they referred my to the wrong service

You need to call EAP and ask for someone else and then tell them why. I would then report it to his professional board.

I don't think you have to bother with reporting anything or getting all worked up about it - if you don't like the guy you can just stop seeing him and go on with your life. There is no requirement to turn it into some big drama.
