So I have an online blog I was telling my T about a few sessions ago. T seemed to take an interest in it and asked me what the username is so they could look it up. I was surprised they even cared about it. Surely they have much more important things to do than read my blog. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I didn't have a blog at the time I was in therapy. But I would sometimes give my Ts some materials to see that had a personal meaning to me like old movies I liked to watch what I was a child, some articles or books that were touching some important to me subjects. They always looked at whatever I brought and we had discussed it later.

If I'd had a blog back then, I am sure they would've done the same. They would've looked at it and later we would've discussed it. To me this is just a normal part of therapy, not something exceptional.

My T would only read my blog if I wanted him to. He is interested in the stuff I'm doing and I sometimes send him links but he's also mindful of my privacy and only looks stuff up when I ask him to. I wouldn't personally be keen on an assumption by a therapist that it's okay to just ask for the link because they are interested. What you share with them and what they read should be your choice.

My understanding is that Ts will try to limit themselves to knowing what you tell/show them in session or on purpose.

Why did the blog come up, were you talking about something you'd written about?

I showed my Ts stuff online and they did look at it (unless it became excessive, which happened at times). I don't see anything weird or unusual about it. Some Ts claim that they don't do this because it would be intrusive and they want to learn about the client directly, in session - that's fine. But I am always surprised when people here on this forum say that Ts have more important things to do or are too busy to look at client info online. They are not busier than anyone else who has a job and a life.
Thanks for this!
