I think my therapist is being inappropriate with me (I’m female, male therapist). I don’t want to say too much here in case he checks these forums. Could I please talk privately with someone who can give me some feedback about his behavior? A lot has happened and I really don’t know what to think or how to proceed.
Thank you |

I see this is your first post. Welcome to PC! I don't personally have any experience with a male therapist being inappropriate with me (I've only had female therapists) but I'm sure there are people here who have. I hope you get some support. kit.

Welcome
You can message me anytime. I try to be as non judging as possible as my T is very boundary crossing, however in my case, I love it....I'd be happy to give you feedback about your situation if you wish

IDIMY would be a good person to talk to IMO. You can always message me too if you want to. I have had an unethical male therapist and I now have an ethical one.

Ok, thank you everyone who replied. I really appreciate it because I don’t have anyone I can run this by. I’ll PM you the details tonight when I get home. I apologize in advance if it is long. Any advice is appreciated.

In general, if therapy feels wrong or intrusive, if it causes more problems than it helps, the client is free to consider other options. I don’t think we need to justify our choices or answer to anyone else—leaving a practice isn’t truancy. Each of us is entitled to decide our own comfort level and boundaries and when they’re crossed.

I have a male T who is super-conscious of safe boundaries , while still being emotional & intimate in a therapy sense. It is a touching experience overall to be that safe with a human male. No touch is oddly touching. Feeing safe in therapy is a so important, that I hope you resolve this by seeking a definitive answer and feeling empowered to act on it, whatever you decide is going on.

Whatever is going on, I hope you get some helpful answers from it. I'm still willing to read if you need someone else... don't let the fact that I love the stuff with my T going on , deter you, I'm very aware that everyone is different and has different levels of comfort etc... so I'd reply generally speaking as I would to anyone else.
Again, welcome, hope you enjoy yourself here

I am also willing to weigh in. I have experience with a male therapist who crossed boundaries in a grey-area way. I'm also seeing a male therapist now who has very good boundaries.

Almost always when something feels wrong, it is. But even if nothing happened that is objectively wrong, it is enough that you don’t feel right. People socialized as women are often made to feel that whatever is going on has to meet the standard for conviction in a court of law in order to be “allowed” to distance ourselves from someone.
Not so. You can unilaterally decide that you don’t want to return to a therapist for any reason at all including “welp I really dunno.” Your sense that something isn’t quite right is enough. Don’t overrule it. |

I’m sorry to hear you may have been treated unethically or had a boundary violation in therapy.
Have had a few untheical T’s and have filed criminal, licensing board and criminal complaints against one. My PM are open. You can PM me if you want to and I’ll let you know what I think. |
