My last therapist asked me to update her after our final conversation. I wasn't sure if it would be my last session or not at the time but it did end up being that. She told me to update her either way. I'm trying to figure out how I can go about writing this email. I don't want to overstep any boundaries.

I'm also trying to find a new therapist. Do you think this is something she would be able to help with? I was on a sliding scale with her so could she vouch for me to get therapy for a similar price with a new therapist? Does it really matter or should I just find a new therapist myself? This is happening out of state from my former therapist and in my new state, I do have insurance (though it's not very good). Either way I'm still not able to afford therapy.

It's hard trying to find a new therapist. A good place to start is your insurance. Another place is psychology today who has a list of therapists in your area, some of whom are likely to offer a sliding fee. I don't know if your former therapist would be able to help you find a new therapist because it sounds like you two are in different states. She may not have contacts in the other state. But she may know of other resources besides your insurance and psychology today. It does sound like your former T wanted to know how you were doing and it's up to you whether or not you want to update her. I had to end seeing my T after 10 years because she got MS and wasn't able to practice any longer. It was very hard. It is still very hard. She supported me while I found another therapist and gave me her opinion after I had a session or two with them. But she didn't give me contacts or names or anything, which surprised me. But if she wasn't going to do it, then I had to do it myself. I have contacted her twice since ending therapy with her. It's still painful and honestly I should have waited longer before contacting her because it causes me pain but I guess it's just so hard to let go. But that is just my experience and it may not be the same for you. I hope you find a new therapist to work with that will be a good fit for you. (((hugs))) Kit.
