Hugs, Jersey. I've been thinking about you off and on all day.

Keep breathing...

Post while drinking that wine if you need to.

Was planning to study for a bit today to prepare for this upcoming rotation (even though all the attendings at my hospital told me not to) but I just couldn't make myself do it. So instead I watched Christmas movies and baked cookies and worked on a cross-stitch project I'm making for my roommate as a Christmas gift.

To quote Dora the Explorer, sorry not sorry.

My parents each year sound more like they‘d prefer to just break up. Not sure what‘s keeping them together, but I guess if it works for them...

Thanks guys. I went out and only bought one bottle so I set a limit for myself. It’s going to go down really easy.

Apparently my D is now upset by my mere existence. As I said to T today, can I let her know I was the one who picked out and bought most of her Christmas gifts? (Guess that would kill the whole Santa thing though, but not sure if she really believes in/understands that anyway).

Ask her about her thoughts on Santa.

I'm not sure how old she is but I knew around 11.... my brothers were close to that. Just depends on when you feel ready.

Can you just ask her questions about Santa? “What is Santa bringing you this year?”
“Do you know how Santa gets in the house?”
Or you can just tell her..mommy and daddy bought your gifts? But then you might have an issue if tells other kids in school that Santa is not real. She’s still quite young.
Thanks for this!

My house is getting company-clean, which is not the normal state around here. It sucks and I hate doing it, but it looks so good and smells fresh and citrusy from the mopping stuff. I wish I had the cleaning gene that my sister has, but I have the lazy one instead. I've got miles to go yet, probably hours in the kitchen and bathroom. Ugh.

Got the groceries today, the stores are so crowded and traffic is a nightmare, I don't think I'll be going anywhere else in the near future.

Hope you all have a restful Sunday. Hugs and sedate head-nods all around.

Yes, I have no clue whether she really gets the Santa thing. I was too smart for my own good at one point as a kid and was like "Wait a minute, Santa is giving me gifts, but Mom and Dad aren't?" So then they started giving me gifts just from them. Might be good to askher about Santa though. I mean if she doesn't believe, no use pretending!

As I remember, by around age 7 I and most of my grade-school classmates were at minimum suspicious of Santa’s existence and openly scornful of the Easter Bunny.

I remember my son got really mad at us for "lying" to him about Santa. Why it was ok for us to lie while we told him to always tell us the truth.

I remember not being bothered one bit when I found out Santa wasn't real. I don't think I really cared. As long as there were presents, I was happy xD

I forget how old I was, but my mom asked me if I still believed in Easter Bunny, as we were going to the beach over Easter. I expressed my doubts, and she spilled it about Santa, too.

I honestly don’t think I ever believed in Santa. I was always pretty clear with the fact that my presents came from my parents. I think Christmas was more sacred than secular in my upbringing which might be the reason; we just didn’t emphasize the Santa thing.

I don't recall getting all that bothered about santa claus one way or the other. I remember going with my grandmother to watch santa's helicopter land in the sear's parking lot when I was around 4.

I indicated what it was.
I, a lawyer, was being your friend. I did not erase it altogether from being known, simply from being seen - I prevented an ostentatious blinky repetition.

Plus that particular one is a tad too tell-tale heart pulsating creepiness thingy for me to have left it in my response.

I found out about Santa because Christmas Eve night, my parents were downstairs playing with a toy for my sister. Next day when we went to open presents, that toy was from Santa! So I figured it out, but didn't say anything. I played along for my sister's sake until she figured it out.

I was never allowed to believe in Santa, I think I told this story before. My oldest found out around 3rd grade. The little hasn't said anything but I'm not pretending this year. She's gone shopping with me for some of her gifts and they're all under the tree right now. Christmas morning she may count them and wonder where the ones from Santa are. But she's in 5th grade so I'm ready to end the charade!
