Hike was lovely—I’ll definitely go back to the nature reserve I visited.
Couch 185: The Labyrinth

Am now keeping my friend company (the one who is stuck working a 24h shift today) since I live really close to the hospital—watching Elf in one of the call rooms and working on a cross stitch project for my roommate. Couch 185: The Labyrinth

Despite feeling cruddy and pathetic about not having any plans, this Christmas actually wasn’t so bad

I felt I did fairly well. Though, yeah, it does bother me a little that he asked how I did. I mean, he phrased it as "how did it go?" but he asked his sister how long she and her H were there compared to me and, yeah, basically asked how I did. Like...I was a kid or something. He said (to me) that I'd seemed particularly keyed up about Christmas this year (as in, stressed out), and I was like, "I'm always keyed up about Christmas..." Like, maybe he didn't think I could manage on my own? Or they were holding me hostage there or something? (I was just waiting to leave at the same time as someone else, was there like another hour and felt fine chatting.)

Walked my dog today and just started crying. I miss my dog and my T so much. It killed me knowing T is still alive and I'm not "allowed" to wish him a merry Christmas or ask how his was. It literally makes me feel like the most worthless person. Why did he ever bother pretending to care and get to know me and share stuff about himself, if it's only supposed to end like this? Ugh...

My friend has "hope" for us in the future but I sadly no longer do. I have given up, almost all hope I had of ever seeing or speaking to him again. There's a chance I'll be wrong but why live with false hope? Nothing good happens in my life and everything that makes me happy leaves... so expecting anything but crap, is only delusional

I did have a so so day. We do gag gifts now so it is always a bit fun but my grandma hurt her hip and was in pain so that kinda hindered things a bit. Mom's dog was a treat, running around opening everyone's stuff! Cute little thing.

Would highly recommend Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the switch. It's one big beautiful sandbox. You can fight vicious monsters or just collect apples and cook them. It's a fully interactable and almost inexhaustible world.

una, I fell in love with cardamom when we had a Saudi exchange student. He was so shocked at the price of spices here that his mother went to the market and sent him an entire suitcase full of spices--huge bags of cinnamon, cardamom, something that looked and smelled a little like dried basil but wasn't, a couple more I can't quite remember. And dates, which we had to eat in even numbers because it's healthier that way.

He stored them in the basement pantry, and even for a few months after he left, the place smelled like cardamom.

I’m trying to figure out which video game console to buy. Leaning towards the Swtich because it seems the most versatile... anyone know anything about this?

I have an Xbox one and a switch. The switch is brand new so I know less about it. The switch seems like more of a family console with more fun quirky games like mariokart etc. Xbox is more of an all-round appliance with a built in Blueray player and (I think) higher graphics. PlayStation 4 is similar to Xbox one I think except it's compatible with a virtual reality headset .
Thanks for this!

Oh and of course you can 'switch' the switch into a handheld console.

I don't have much to add Echoes but I'm proud of you for taking a stand and not just agreeing with him if it would have been easier. I agree, children don't deserve to be shouted for the slightest of things.

I hope your T is having fun, but he might have used whatsapp or maybe he bought credit.

I don't know what a sandbox game means. I have read the term. Right now I am still figuring out the controls. when they are connected and then when we are trying to play with two people. The two people and control thing takes us about 30 min to figure out each time.

I got the switch because it would mean that it wouldn't be using the tv if only one wanted to play and I was familiar with the idea of some of the games (mario kart for example) from the wii

Ugh, I woke up at 4 am. It's toasty in my bed, and there's dishes waiting for me in the kitchen. Can't I just stay here a few more years?

Some games have a very linear progression and there's not much opportunity to explore the created world or, really, do anything beyond what the game leads you through. Often the backdrop you see is just that - a backdrop.

Sandbox games are not like that. You have the ability to complete main and (numerous) side quests in any order you'd like, or not at all. In Zelda, the background is not just artwork - it's completely fleshed out. If you can see an apple, you can pick it; if you can see a mountain in the distance, you can walk to it and climb to the top, etc.

And, yeah, the joy of learning the controls. I'm glad you got the console and hope you have fun with it.
