Hi couch folks. Started my low carb today. Breakfast consisted of an egg/cheese/spinach omelette with 2 turkey sausage patties. My carbs for breakfast was a total of 3.
The high calories has me a little concerned but I guess on extreme low carb diets you aren’t suppose to count that stuff? |

Wish I knew, Jersey. I have never been able to stick to low carb so assume I've always done it wrong....

If you're doing this for weight loss, I'm under the impression that you'd still need to pay attention to calories. It basically comes down to calories in vs. calories out. Are you using an app or anything to track the carbs? If so, you could track calories there, too. Note: I'm just saying this from a general nutrition perspective, not about low-carb diets specifically. |

So the past few nights I've had
Possible trigger:
The weird thing is, when he was my T, this only happened once and it was after a pretty graphic talk in session...... I don't get why this is happening as he isn't in my life anymore. This isn't what I want to think of him like either. I just wanna focus on the funny/good stuff. How can I stop it? I obviously can't discuss it with him or any T, as I am not going back to therapy......

Jersey—yes, the calories still matter but low-carb diets will tell you it’s also the type of calorie and its source.
When 2ex went on Atkins, I was at something like 1400 calories a day without feeling deprived because I wasn’t as hungry as usual or snacking because I felt fuller thanks to fewer carbs. |

Sometimes it is useful to stop resisting.

Yeah, like the thing where if you tell someone "Don't think of a pink elephant," then that's exactly what they're going to think of. |

Isn't there some theory about eating the most calories at breakfast and then paring down from there?

I do love watching the self- proclaimed enlightened become snippy, indignant, and self-righteous.

I think I’ve heard something like that. Eat your calories earlier in the day and nothing 4 hours before bed? If that’s the case- it’s 11:30am. I have all day to fix my morning error of too many calories. |

Not necessarily. Rather than think of X calories=1#, it might be more helpful to think about food's impact on metabolism. Very low calorie diets--regardless of the type of food consumed--slow metabolism. That's why it's almost impossible not to regain weight after most diets. It's also why yo-yo dieting tends to leave people less healthy than a steady weight. If you want to make your breakfast healthier (lower in sat fat), I'd substitute half the whole eggs with Egg Beaters or extra whites, skip the cheese or just add a touch of feta for flavor. Chopped onion, pepper, tomato is good for flavor, too. And tobasco or siracha if you like it. If you really want meat, some make it yourself ground turkey would be better than processed patties or sausages. Or those cooked chicken strips, defrosted and browned. Good on you for avoiding toast at breakfast! I wouldn't count calories because that would make me feel deprived. |

I’m going to go take a walk around the local park today. I don’t particularly enjoy walking in the very windy weather we have today but I need to burn a few calories.

I wish I could look back at 2018 as a good/decent year but with how it ended with T, it just sucks.
I have no hope for 2019 being much better. I'll never understand why he was put in my life, only for us to really bond and him to leave me. I honestly regret therapy, I'll never go back

H and I had a huge, huge blow up this morning. He hasn't yelled at me like that in a long time. He yelled about me going to therapy so long (why I don't know as he knows it ended almost 4 weeks ago), that I tie his hands and won't let him quit his job and flip houses, how he's just

Jersey, if you're going low carb, don't try to count calories or watch your intake for the first 2 weeks. Just getting used to going without carbs and finding other foods that satisfy your tastes is very difficult. After you stop craving carbs you will notice a reduction in appetite. Good luck!!!

Sorry to hear, art. But you guys have come back from blow ups before, right? Have faith in that.
Maybe this is a good opportunity in disguise? Does he know you came out yet? |

![]() ![]() ![]() I'm so sorry artie. No way do you ever deserve to be shouted at. My theory is that all of this is linked to your son moving out and it's given him time to think more about changes in general. I hope he will talk through all of this properly when he's cooled down.
