1:00, which is in a little over 5 hours here. (it took me entirely too long to calculate that time, clearly my coffee hasn't kicked in yet!) |

I’m following this because I’m in a similar situation. Would like to consult with another T, but feel sort of guilty about it (I know that’s wrong...but hey just add it to the list). 😏

Is that a thing? Can you see a new T specifically to address issues with your current T? That seems like a a good idea in a way. Hope it goes well for you.

Thanks, yeah, I've heard it can be a thing, and my T has said before that if I wanted to consult with another T, he'd be OK with it. And that he's done it for people before. Honestly, part of why I went to see current T initially was to help consult about stuff with ex-MC, as I felt ex-T wasn't helping (and I guess to consult a little about ex-T as well). It was originally meant to be a 1-2 month thing, I just ended up staying with him. With this, the intention is 1 or 2 sessions, then figure out if I think I should stay with current T. Don't know if consulting T is someone I could see staying with, but I figure my main goal is figuring out if I should keep seeing current T. And if the answer is no (or at least that I should take a break), then decide who I'd want to see instead. |

I did that when I went to see T for what was supposed to be a short time to discuss things going badly with T1

I wish I had known this was a thing, I would have done it. Might have saved me a lot of pain right now

LT...I have to admit it painful for me to watch you spinning your wheels in this endless loop with your T. I could be totally off base and feel free to ignore me but it just seems like your sessions are based on reactions to what he says. It appears that your distress tolerance is very low and triggered whenever he does not give you the response or answer that you are looking for. This results in extra sessions to discuss his response in hope that you can turn it around to your expectations.
I am not badmouthing your T but it does seem that he could spend more time on helping you address the source of this issue. It may be something to bring up to the new T just to see what course of action they would recommend. Also, there are some great DBT skills that can help with OCD symptoms such as learning how to check the facts, ways to increase distress tolerance and ways to deal with interpersonal relationships successfully. I just think there is so much more your T can be doing to help you get past all of this. I know my T is strict and he makes me mad quite often but I must admit his methods are working and I have made huge improvements through DBT, CBT and mindfulness practice. Again, just my opinion for what it is worth. I wish you the best in your upcoming decision. |

I have never seen any problem with hiring multiple therapists for whatever reason you want.
I never had a problem with breaks from either or both of the women. There were times I went without seeing either for a few weeks. I understand seeing a consulting therapist, but other than that I don't get what the purpose of a back up therapist for you would be. What are you using the therapists for? Not that you have to tell me, but do you know?

I hope the session goes well and that it helps move you forward with increased clarity about what you want.
