Why do you want people punished more? How would it help you or them? There are many reasons why people do things. And most, in my experience as a public defender, are not because of innate badness.
Is Javert really the hero?

I was never of prosecutorial bent.

Who have you been watching?

For some beauty/fun & entertainment (oh, and nail art), I recommend Simply Nailogical (Cristine...she's into everything halo) and Safiya Nygaard.

Simply Nailogical: YouTube

Her second page, Simply Not Logical: YouTube

Safiya: YouTube

Simply Nailogical is my bff I will never meet, ha.

Surely paying the money back is all that is needed.

I don’t know that jail is the answer. I’m not sure what I wanted to see happen. I mean-they planned the whole thing from the get go and the couple went on vacations and such and used up all the money.

GoFundMe refunded everyone who donated after they discovered the scam. I think part of their plea deal is to pay restitution. I don’t know what the amount is.

Just another thought, but I'm sure with the amount of money involved they were charged with felonies. Having a felony in this country is almost like having a life sentence. Getting a job will be difficult for these people. Depending on where they live, they will lose the right to vote. This will follow them around until they die. I'm not defending what they did, but just know that the punishment they receive is more than just the jail time they get.

It’s been a huge story for weeks.

This has been going since the beginning of time - and not just in universities. People have bought judgeships by donations to political campaigns and other methods, set their children up by joining secret societies, bought them military commissions, priesthoods, and so on - again since forever.
Do you really think that merit is what has gotten 99% of people into any elite university ever? The idea of an elite university is there mostly to perpetuate what these guys want to set up - not that the education is that many times better than at most other institutions. So even those who are worked up about not getting in while someone else did is mostly worked up over perceived eliteness. Is that a worthy trait really?
This is, to me, like getting all worked up about the fact that athletes try to use substances to enhance performance. Lane Armstrong and the deep (and to me incomprehensible) sense of betrayal some fans seemed to feel.
Why not just leave them to it and go on with your life? How does it really have any bearing on anyone else?

Ps. and I am not just saying those things because of all the times I have had to serve on admissions committees and not once was I offered $150,000.
Or even .15 cents.

I had a little break this afternoon. Now it’s back to work. Housework is still happening as well. I’m hoping within a month everything should go back to normal. Well, whatever normal is.

Luckily I have no illusions or even delusions about working at an elite university.
