Last night I went through a box of old books in my room and found several old journals. One of them was from around age 12, which was when a lot of my trauma history happened. I kind of want to share what I wrote with my T so he can see my mindset from that time period, but I don’t know if I should.

I wrote some pretty dark s*** about SI and SH, and it’s in poetry form, but like not even good poetry because I was 12 lol. I’m mostly hesitant to share it with him because I find the fact that I wrote poems about what I was feeling pretty embarrassing (mostly because they make me wanna cringe).

Any thoughts? Have any of you done something like this before?

I don't share the actual writing with my T, I just tell him what's in it and what it means to me. I figure that's probably what he would ask anyway and I don't want to sit around while he reads. I don't think there's anything to be embarrassed about, though, it's probably helpful to have that window on how it was for you in the moment back then.

My therapists were quite interested in records from the past: writings, old photographs, art work... But more when shared in sessions. They never reacted much to stuff I just sent them via email, for example, between sessions.

I think it is a good idea perhaps it will show something relevant now to address.
