*****Trigger warning mention of SA***
Had second session with new/old Psychologist. She had alot of helpful answers but EVERYTHING is DID with her. She was talking about Micheal Jackson and how he had DID and was SA and so he had an alter that would come up everytime SA would happen well years later when he didnt need that alter and was an adult he saw boys and that alter came back out and thats why he sexually abused. Where is she getting this **** from? |

Yikes. This T has everything and everybody allllll figured out, doesn't she?
I think she may be so "into" DID that she has lost her objectivity. What you can trust is that 1: She cannot possibly know the details of MJs psychopathology and 2: She fully believes that she does. |

Yeah, that would weird me out as well... Seems pretty unprofessional as well. I don't remember for how long your T is gone, but is it maybe possible to see somebody different than this woman until your normal T is back?

Wow, totally unprofessional. Why is she using YOUR time with her to explain her “diagnoses” of a dead man? In my opinion, her time would be better spent focusing on you.

So what? What does that have to do with whether or not she can be helpful to you? Tell her to shut it on the wacky theories or conversation about celebrities or whatever you need to do to reduce the irritation. I'd encourage you to speak up about what you want and see if you can make progress.
And from what I know from a very partial insider's view on that case, that theory about him is what the people working on his legal defense advocated. So it may not be so much a wacky theory, and she may have been tied into that case in some way, particularly if she was or is licensed in that state. |

She was trying to explain that some alters can be perpetrators but I dont know if I believe that. |

Some alters (I hate that word... I prefer Parts... anyways) can, indeed, reenact trauma. It's very common for people with a trauma history -- DID or not -- to unintentionally (or, sometimes, intentionally) reenact trauma throughout their lives. One doesn't need to have DID to experience reenactments.
Whether or not that was part of Michael Jackson's life is not possible to know. |

I find that many psychologists/therapists love to dissect the psychology and issues of public figures and celebrities, while at the same time they often preach against diagnosing people one has never met. Guess they just cannot resist. My first T did this and it was very easy to see that often his "analyses" were extremely subjective and projected - he imposed his pet ideas on people he only knew about from the media. Another good example is Kirk Honda of the Psychology in Seattle podcast series - he seems better at it and more objective, but still...
Maybe the T attempting to make you more comfortable relating what she sees as your problem to a well-known and admired celebrity. I t would not work for me but many people like to relate to celebrities... I think it is not very good clinical practice to do this with clients. As others suggested, I think you could just tell her stright when you think what she says is BS or unhelpful and ask to focus on helping you. |

Do you hold a firm DID diagnosis? I thought that was in question, but perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly. My concern is that if you don't hold a firm DID diagnosis, the therapist seems to be unable to consider other diagnoses. Not particularly objective. Feels like she has only one focus and may be unable to see past her own professional agenda.

But if you spend all your time related to therapy questioning everything she says about DID and your diagnosis, then you don't have to deal with anything else. It might be worth it to explore why you throw up this kind of roadblock to therapy and whether there is any there there. |

Some alters can definitely be perpetrators. I believe my abusive father has DID. Some of his alters were sadistic and extremely abusive. Others were like frightened little children. Others were "normal" every day life parts. These different parts of him were absolutely separate and unaware of each other.

I don't doubt that some alters can be perpetrators, but exploring whether/how that applies to you is what she should be spending her time on in your session. As far as MJ, I prefer to believe the FBI over a T who hasn't declared any direct contact with him. (The FBI, despite an intensive 10 year investigation, found no evidence that he abused anybody. Weird behavior, yes, but weird doesn't equal abuse.)
