Just wondering – for those of you whose therapists have been out on medical leave or had surgery, how were you kept up to date on how the therapist was doing? Did the therapist contact you directly or did his office or some other way? Thanks in advance.

No, honestly, it wasn’t my business. He had family to take care of him. I assumed all would be well, and if not, the office would let me know. Once I returned to sessions with him, he filled me in on how things had gone while he was on leave.

Yup. This. I have sent my T an email just letting him know that he was in my thoughts and that I hoped things were going well but I kept that simple and did not expect a reply.

Thanks, guys. I’m not sure yet exactly what my T plans to do and am trying to figure out what to expect.

My T updated her outgoing voicemail, when she was able to. She also sent me a few emails, and I think we texted a bit, too.

If you still have an appointment before T goes on medical leave you could always ask what to expect and what is acceptable as far as reaching out.
