Has anyone heard of compassion focused therapy?
Any opinions or experiences with it? My T wants me to try meditation from it but no explanation or introduction into this therapy mode.

I haven't but am curious - I thought the essence of most good therapy was compassion for the client? What does the specific approach entail? I love meditation and find it really useful but that's something I've got into on my own as a way to reduce stress in my life.

Compassion focus is one of the modalities that EMDR T ultilizes. She hasn't come out and said she is using it bit it is on her website and she really works at getting me to have more compassion for myself. She often points out how compassionate, understanding, accepting and forgiving I am towards others but totally different with my self

Thank you everyone! I just have to understand everything we do with my T. If I don't have "psycho education" about what's going on in therapy I panic.

She suggested creating a compassionate image in my mind. It's supposed to be an image of something that represents compassion, wisdom and safety. Then I guess I'm supposed to talk to it or something.
It seems rather silly. I have no idea what should I imagine. Also knowing that image is just a fake fantasy isn't helpful. I'm also incredibly scared of any meditation that doesn't involve working with physical senses (body scan is the only acceptable meditation for me). I don't like this suggested new technique at all but I want to try it for my T. She tries so hard to help me and I feel I should at least try the technique before refusing it. How do I do this? What should I imagine? And how do I get rid of my deep fear of meditation? I've had very negative side effects with meditation in the past.

So I've learned CFT is supposed to work on people who don't respond well to CBT.
