I need to choose a psychiatrist for researching my mental health and diagnosis. The problem is that I do not speak English. I was looking for doctors who speak my language, but I did not find anyone. I thought I could take a translator, so maybe I will go to an English-speaking doctor.
But I don’t know anything about getting medical care in the USA. I do not have insurance and I have a low salary.
I need only a couple of sessions with the doctor so that he determines what happened to me and prescribed me medications.
I will be engaged in psychotherapy (psychoanalyst) on Skype with a person who speaks my language, so I need only a doctor, a psychiatrist, who will diagnose and prescribe medications.

In my home country, I was given a schizoaffective disorder. There were suspicions of schizoid disorder and schizophrenia.
I need a doctor who knows how to work with psychoses. Because I had a history of hallucinations and delusion.

Please help, where to look for a specialist?
I would be grateful if you explain how the payment goes.
If a doctor says one price on a web page, it means that you come and give this price at one time (and no more bills come to you?)
Hugs from:
Omers
Thanks for this!

Hello vlskn: I'm sorry I am not able to answer your questions. (Perhaps other PC members will have some suggestions they can offer.) However I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.

Here's a link to an article, from Psych Central's archives, on how to find a good psychiatrist:

How Do I Find a Good Psychiatrist?

Also here's a link to a website that includes a search function for finding a psychiatrist:

Find a Psychiatrist

Vlskn,
Are you, by any chance, a university student? Also, it might help us to know what your native language is.

Hi, you should be able to go to a community health clinic. They will charge you most likely on a sliding scale based on how much income you make. You will most likely pay that copay every time you have an appointment.

Teaching universities make it a point of listing the languages its providers speak. I don't know where you live, but look for a teaching hospital nearest you and tell them your need. At our psychiatric teaching hospital physicians languages are listed.

If you want medications, you will be required to see the doctor as long as you want to keep taking those medications. A doctor is not going to refill prescriptions if you stop seeing them.
