How do you choose what to wear to therapy? What do you think of what your T wears? Does it matter to you?
Thanks for this!

I just wear whatever. Comfy stuff. I don't really think about or notice what the therapist wears, so I guess I don't care much. I have noticed that therapists have a penchant for blocky geometric type necklaces and scarves, but I have no opinion on this either way.

I don't think I would like it if she wore a dress suit because then I would probably feel like I needed to put a bit more effort into my appearance. As it is, I settle for wearing clean clothes and being clean myself (well, sometimes my hair needs washing, but I try to cover it up with a hat when that happens).

I do think of what to wear to sessions. Even what shoes. And what shirt/hoodie I’m going to wear when I do the video sessions. But I think of what I’m going to wear to everything. From work to family events to just running errands.

I hadn’t been paying attention to what my therapist wore until we started doing the video sessions. She’s done away with the business casual tops and has started wearing T shirts and hoodies and sweat shirts.

I wore jeans or khakis and a button down shirt. I did not pay any attention at all to what the therapist wore.

I always wear some kind of sweat pants (or shorts in the summer) and a comfy shirt. I try to be as comfortable as possible.

I pay some attention to what my T wears, but mostly just because I at some point realized that it's almost always various shades of blue and I think it's kind of funny.

I don’t really put in any thought into what I wear for my appointments. T usually is wearing a pullover sweater and slacks. He does have a nice sock game though.

I wear jeans and a nice top. In the summer sometimes I wear a dress because it's cooler. I try not to wear the same thing repeatedly. Other than that, I don't think much about it.

My T dresses business casual. She wears dresses a lot, or slacks and a top. Comfortable shoes, like me.

I dress comfortably. Clean.
My T always wears black. I asked her once, and she said it's her favorite color.

I go straight to therapy from work, so I wear business casual mostly. Doing therapy online has given me opportunities to dress down, which I like.
I generally dress better than my T. She tends to wear the same black dress pants each time, but changes her tops. It really annoys me when she wears a top she doesn't feel confident in and constantly tries to adjust it when I am looking away. It's a distraction. I'd rather she just feel comfortable in her clothing so we can get on with it.

I used to go to therapy from work, I found that easy. Now I don’t, so I guess I worry a bit that he might think I’m dressing for him? I know I have weird taste in clothes and all of them are quite different. I think I see it as dressing up.

My T wore a dark red jumper every week for a few months last year, and then suddenly he stopped. Replaced it with a dark red cardigan instead 😁 Sometimes I wonder where his jumper is. I hate the hot weather, I want to wear as little as possible but I don’t want to look crazy.

I like to feel comfy because he always thinks I look tense. I just don't want him thinking 'oh she must be trying to seduce me because she's got her legs out' etc. I would wear dresses all the time if I could. I'm always interested what he is wearing even though it's just plain trousers and top usually, but I like him.

For the last few zoom sessions, I wore a t-shirt and PJ shorts. This is very different from how much effort I usually make for in-person sessions, where I choose what to wear the night before and try stuff on in advance. I even wear a different perfume on therapy days, because I want to associate a specific scent with the feeling of safety I get in therapy. It's been two years and has worked...I now wear that perfume for zoom therapy sessions and it instantly takes me back to T's office, which heightens the connection during teletherapy.

During face-to-face sessions, I mostly wear jeans or cigarette trousers (I go straight from work), trainers and a jumper. I have also worn skirts and pinafores during warmer months. I like clothes and I think that for me they are a mode of expression. I sometimes worry that he thinks I'm dressing up for therapy (which I am, but shh). I have no doubt that he picked up on it.

Appearance doesn't matter that much to me, though I am a bit standoffish if they're in a suit, unless I know them already. Suits project authority and I kind of have always had issues with that

I'm usually in jeans or khakis and some sort of sweater, hoodie, or other long sleeved shirt. My T dresses in a lot of black, or burgundy and very flowing type shirts with usually bunches of cardigans around her. She's rather fluffy in a way. But it's a good way. She always sort of looks like she landed on earth and isn't quite sure how she got here.

I don't care what T wears. I wear comfortable clothes. But then, I wear comfy clothes everyday.

I used to wear comfortable, but stylish clothes that I chose the day before a session. I enjoyed getting dressed and going out to the clinic. Now, with video sessions, getting dressed nicely has gone out the window. As long as I have clothes on, who cares what I'm wearing. In fact, I could drape a scarf around my neck and be stark naked otherwise, my T wouldn't know.

As far as what she wears, she always wears pretty jewelry that suits her personality, which is nice.

I am so flipping neurotic about what I wear to sessions! If T knew I think we would spend a week of sessions processing how crazy I get over it!

All clothes are washed, usually in their own load, the night before. I have one pair of designated T socks (I take me shoes off) that are a dark pink carhart sock (clearances at work, feminine but bulky wool blend). Either my sneakers or my blah leather flats (same brand T wears but a women’s shoe instead of his boots). I have two pairs of jeans, dark dye and a comfy but not frumpy fit. Winter is layers... lots of comfy, concealing layers! I used to wear bulky sweaters or a sweatshirt but then T complimented my sweater one session (appropriately) so it has been sweatshirts since. Summer is polos TUCKED IN!! (see rant in what your T wears for why I emphasize tucked in). Sometimes I will be confident enough (or just too hot) and I will layer with a tank top with a super light cotton shirt (long sleeve) over the top and tied at the waist. It looks like it is going to be a really hot and humid summer here so I *might* have to break down and wear ankle length, loose skirts. Heat and I do not get along.

I try not to pay attention to what I wear but I do inside. I must look and smell nice so everyone knows I'm looking after myself. Even if I'm feeling blah I dress to impress if you like. I do notice what my Therapist wears but I'm such a tomboy it goes over my head lol

I have a session in about an hour and I’m wearing a sleeveless shirt, I’ve never worn a sleeveless shirt, and my hair is a bit of a mess because I didn’t take a shower today. I wonder what she’ll say. Sometimes people think your doing poorly based on your appearance. But it’s frigging hot outside so I hope she cuts me some slack.

I normally go directly after work so I wear dresses/skirts or slacks and a blouse. The last 2 1/2 months I have had time to go home and shower and change so it on occasion has been exercise clothes.
