Why is it so hard to find a new T? One never got back to me. Another said they had to talk to their Ts and would get back to me in a week. Another wouldn’t answer the phone so I filled out their online form. I know a lot of them are full but I can’t even get to the point that they tell me they have no openings. I am debating stopping therapy all together but my pdoc really wants me seeing a T twice a week because I am very unstable and my mood can change at a moments notice. I am just getting frustrated at the lack of response. If the answer is no just tell me that so I can try and move on.

I would probably take not getting back to you within a week as a no and move on.

I'm really sorry. Honestly, I think there is a shortage of therapists in many locations. And more competition would lower cost.

Better that they weed themselves out now than to get right back to you, sound good and then be a flake or worse. Finding a new T always sucks so I try to put a positive spin on it. If they don’t handle business phone calls in a way I am comfortable with then I doubt I will work well with them.
I have also come to the firm conclusion that 98% of T’s suck.

I wonder if the covid situation is making matters worse at the moment too. Where I live most T's are only offering phone or online therapy and it doesn't seem that a lot are keen to take on new clients. The problems with getting back to you sound very frustrating though. I agree that if you haven't heard within a few days just assume it's a no and move on.

I was in this situation ten years ago. It is very frustrating. I want to encourage you though... the therapist i finally found after two years of searching was absolutely worth the long wait and all the frustration.
I hope you find someone soon. |

It is definitely frustrating. It took a lot of searching before I found my current T and it was worth the wait.
I’m sorry you’re going through this now and I hope you find someone soon. |

I wonder if pdoc has any ideas?

I agree that asking pdoc is a good idea. Most pdocs are familiar with therapists in the area.
