whenever you tell your t something came up and you have to reschedule, do they tell you a time day/time ? or make you tell them? I just talked to L cuz we'd been waiting to hear about an appt at the bank and they called earlier saying it's wednesday at 3:30 pm meaning i wouldn't be back home for my 4pm session. She couldn't make it later so she asked if friday's still my day off i said yeah so i can do anytime at all on friday. i said i'm the one inconveniencing you so you tell me the best time.... but she made me say a time!! i hate that. i hate the feeling of inconveniencing someone. i know i know she's a grownup and can say "no i'm sorry i can't do that time." so i need to let her be responsible for herself don't I. anyway we're zooming at 8am friday. by then i'll be at over 2,000 words in my little therapy essay haha.

The couple times I've had to reschedule, my T has offered up his available times, and I've picked from them (or taken the one time he had available). That is weird she had you say a time, but maybe she was just mostly open that day? |

Not until next Friday since he's only once a week. I speak with trauma T on Wednesday, but that's still 5 days away. I guess I could go to the crisis walk in center beforehand if I need to talk to someone.

Welp unofficially got plans for the school year for 1-2 of my kids. Kinder is being pushed back until August 24 and will either be hybrid or fully online. Not sure when preschool will start, usually it's 2 weeks after the rest of school, but will be the same 2 options.
My sons' middle school is supposed to finalize their plans by the end of next week. I understand the safety aspect. But is it wrong that I'm terrified of having all 4 of them at home again until January at least half time and trying to manage all their schoolwork and schedules? |

well we got a curveball thrown at us earlier. this appt at the bank is about refinancing our house. and they sent us some documents we have to sign, i read through them earlier when they came and there's a thing checked in there that says they can demand an early payoff at any time, for any reason. i'm like um NOOOOO!!! this was NOT explained to us when we went in and talked to them to apply for it. I do NOT want to go forward with this no way, no how. I am NOT going to go through another foreclosure and we are not even out of the woods yet with our bankruptcy 8 or 9 years ago. This sucks. H better freakin' listen to me. I am NOT signing this. No way in hell.

Hi couch...
I don't think many can relate to this but I remember I'm not the only one way back when I had that whole rupture with my T over lgbtq issues in my very conservative society... Gender dysphoria, sexual shame due to purity culture, sexual dysfunctions and sexual trauma... All in a messy ball.... Is painful. T has been wonderful, she encouraged me to go on the wait list for my country's one and only gender clinic. She's fine with me seeing a gender T alongside her. She is cisgender and remembers I've struggled with gender stuff for a long time and she's been wonderfully validating. |

![]() That general appointment will be in September, and I've been waiting since early June, not too bad. Also I'm attempting to return to work (different job) since the pandemic has severely affected my visa and moving plans. I have to redo paperwork, his paperwork is pending his slow and backlogged government, then I have to wait up to one and a half years! I joked with T that the biggest stressor in my life is my family and that's solved with estrangement. |

Thankfully he agrees. We talked about it after we finished his baseball draft last night. Yikes is right though, how could they NOT tell us up front about that?! I never would have even started the process. Of course now I am terrified that they won't let us stop it. |

It's mad that they wouldn't tell you straight about something that significant, Artie.

I go back Aug. 5. All teachers are teaching from campus, even if we are teaching virtually - so teachers really aren't given the options families are. We have, at this point about 60% of families choosing virtual learning; 40% in person. There has been some discussion about a hybrid model, but because our jerk of a governor and our idiot of an education agency in our state originally said hybrid was not going to be allowed, the balls had already been set in motion without it when the governor backtracked because our state is currently in horrible shape with the pandemic. It is a constantly moving target we are trying to hit blindfolded in a dark room. Kids start Aug. 19, either virtually or in person by parent choice. Middle school and high school has a program where even if virtual, they can come for certain electives. I suspect I will be in person which is my preference - virtual is not a great modality for AP English and every period I teach is a different course - lots of preps. This year is going to suck. I'd retire, but I really am not in the financial position to do so, particularly since my husband is still on furlough with no end in sight. Yes, having kids at home trying to learn has to be overwhelming, particularly if you have multiple kids. And the teaching that will be going on this year will not be what it was like last spring. Last spring we were just managing a crisis and really weren't trying to advance new learning. Grading was P/F in our district and LOTS of grace given. This year virtual will be full teaching, new material, normal grading system, attendance taken, and 4-6 hours a day at home for each student. Personally, that sounds like a complete drag for kids, but I understand parents wanting to keep kids home for safety. There is no good solution to this. Every option has serious problems with it. |

If you're familiar with "Am I the Asshole?" on reddit, well, one today just took my breath away.
Father of a teenager is upset because she's exceeding her screen time limits on her phone and talking too much to her friends. The way dad works with his kids is to give them "incentives" for stopping bad behavior. The daughter has significant hearing loss and cochlear implants. Dad's "incentive" to get her to stop being on her phone so much is to remove the batteries for her cochlear implant and only give them back when she starts following screen time limits. Just, mindblowingly awful. |

@Artley...I used to be a teacher and I totally empathize with your situation. What I really don't understand in your district is why they are starting so early Why not give it a bit of time yet. Most schools I have heard around where I live are moving back to the old time start day in September. I feel sorry for everyone involved. This virus situation has made school a nightmare. Most of all I feel sorry for the kids. I wish you luck in the coming year. At least you are not teaching the little ones. That has to be the most difficult.

We are also on a 4X4 plan in our high schools (very similar to how college coursework works - so a Fall class equals a full year of instruction), so we really prefer to have the semesters split at Christmas - just makes sense (we are one of only two districts in the state using that kind of schedule I believe.) Schools have to start by Labor Day in Texas, so there isn't a whole lot of give anyway. A number of districts have chosen to start like Sept. 8 (which is about as late as they can push it); my sister's district is doing that. But yes, they will go a few weeks later. In her area of the state that makes sense because they are in a very hot zone for the virus right now. Here we've had fairly low hospitalizations and deaths by comparison, even with being right next to Dallas county. Districts in Texas are very different in how things are going with the virus. The problem with teaching the older students is that is the population more likely to spread the virus - the little guys are apparently not as often the spreaders. We have plans for all manner of contingencies - it's been a major undertaking for the districts to figure this all out. Our district probably is in better shape than many - we had most of the technology in place before the shutdown last year and remedied the issues we did find during that time. Not every district has the same infrastructure for this. |

Hahahahah I'm so proud of myself: I just recorded myself playing the RickRoll song on the mandolin and singing along; I sent it to my BF with the message "YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS OUT"
![]() I crack myself up. ETA: I've been sending him little snippets of songs that he likes or stuff that gets stuck in my head so he's used to getting little music clips from me every few days ETA 2: Here's the recording if anyone is interested Last edited by chihirochild; Jul 25, 2020 at 04:17 PM. |
