I sent an email telling her how I feel. She says sessions are 20-50 minutes depending on the client. It felt like she was passing blame that I couldn’t come up with something to talk about in 30 seconds.

$25 for 18 minutes is $1.39 per minute, not counting however much she gets paid by your insurance.....

She gives some clients more time than others? It makes me wonder what training she's had. Time to move on I'd say.

Seriously? Ugh...It's one thing if after 20 minutes, you decided you were done with the session. And it seems like you should have set times. This also makes me think you need a new T. Plus the baby thing twice in a row (like maybe once, make an exception, but now it seems like she's trying to both do her job and be her baby's primary caregiver, which...doesn't work.

Oh, Crook. Wow. I very, very seldom suggest to someone that they find a new therapist, but that one sounds downright unethical, not to mention unprofessional. Nothing about the behavior you've described is acceptable.

You mention she is a new T to you, did somebody recommend her ? Did you only start seeing her since the pandemic?

I had a discussion with her we are going to try going to once a week so I will hopefully have me to talk about. I am going to give her one more chance but she said she can’t promise no baby. I didn’t like the fact that she was blaming me for the short sessions. If I couldn’t think of something in 30 seconds she quickly ended the call. Some times it takes a while to say the hard stuff but she doesn’t let you. I am only giving her that chance because I hate looking for a T.

You are being more generous and tolerant of her unprofessional behavior and mistreatment of you than I would be. I hope it gets better.

I am not impressed with her response. She needs to either be present as a T or be with her baby. With many (most T's) silence is welcomed at least to a certain degree. Often it is when something is being processed or working up the nerve to say something.

Well looking for a new t is never easy but neither is seeing a t who disrespects your time and makes you feel like your feelings and needs don't count.

The choice is always yours but hold onto the fact you don't HAVE to settle for this.
Thanks for this!

Agreed on the silence thing. I'm curious about what this T does when seeing clients in person--if they're quiet for 30 seconds, does she throw them out of her office? Get up and walk out? Because that's basically what she's doing here.
