I need to go back to therapy but I can’t afford weekly therapy so was thinking of going every second week. My therapist told me before that she would not work that way with me, I assume because she thinks it’s less effective?

Is going to therapy every other week less effective? I’d really like to go weekly but it’s just so expensive.

I have always saw my T twice a week since I started seeing her. and it last the whole year long like that except for about 5 weeks when she's off for holidays. i won't be able to imagine seeing her fortnightly. but I guess it could work, something is better than nothing right?

I saw a T weekly for years. Then I started seeing this T and I see her every other week. It works for me. I'm not in crisis as much as I used to be so that helps. Sometimes I probably still need weekly but most of the time every other week is just fine.

I think going every other week can be less effective if you have a lot to talk about and/or have difficulty opening up after not seeing your therapist for a while. When I have gone to every other week, it has usually been when I'm entering maintenance mode and thinking about stopping altogether. But some therapy is probably better than no therapy if you feel like it could be useful right now, so it doesn't hurt to ask your therapist if they will work with you this way.

When I started, I went once a month. After about a year, I switched to bi-monthly. It works well for me (I can’t afford weekly...). But there have been times when she lowered her rate so I could come weekly for a couple of months to help stabilize me.

I am seeing T1 and T2 on alternating weeks. I need the support f therapy every week. I find it jarring though. Perhaps because T1 and T2 are night and day different? IDK, I much prefer The continuity of every week. If I tried every other week I think I would have to take a break until I could afford weekly.
