Hey, everyone. I hope everyone's safe and healthy in these trying times.
About a week ago, my negative reaction to nostalgia got the better of me and led me to a site called "bepeers" that claims "Bepeers connects anyone who experiences social and/or life skills difficulties with qualified peer coaches for virtual interactions, guided conversations, entertainment, and social/life skills training". So owing to my depression and anxiety and cognitive problems (which haven't exactly been diagnosed, but I feel like a dum dum when I try to do stuff because I take a lot longer than other people do), I went ahead and gave them my name and contact details. I shouldn't have been so vulnerable at the time. I get a call a few days later from a very friendly person to discuss the pay structure that was compatible with my financials, and I agreed to a 3 session trial before I decide to pay, but after 16th of this month, since I have an exam I'm long overdue to pass. Apparently, I'm their first Indian customer. Later, it hit me that I should actually ask someone about this website. I found no reviews online. Do any members have any experience or advice regarding this "bepeers.com"? My wallet is relatively small, and I can't afford for this to be a sham. Which is why I need all the feedback I can get on this. I hope someone knows something about this. Stay safe |

I had a look at the website, it looks sort of like a life coaching thing. It doesn’t mean it will be bad though, I guess it depends on who you are matched with and what they are like. Is it the same person you get to talk to every time? It might be nice to have someone to talk to in that way, I’m not sure if they will be in any way qualified to help you though. There are free peer support things out there too, I think I’ve seen some on Facebook. You don’t have to be diagnosed with anything to seek a qualified therapist, everyone can benefit from that. maybe that could be an option if this doesn’t work out?
Either way, I’m sure you’ll get a feeling whether it could help you or not in these trial sessions. |

Personally it wouldnt work with me. Also, if it is an American based company with mostly Americans as coaches the cultural difference would worry me. IMO it is difficult for Americans to understand the culture in India. But that may just be my bias.

What is the basis of your bias? Have you ever visited India? Just curious.

I was a part of a church where about half the congregation was from India and my husband has worked as a part of many multinational teams. I know that around where I currently live racism against persons from India and neighboring countries is worse than any other culture (I am in the mid west).
