Art (and other symbolism-minded Couchies!), maybe you can help me with my dreams.

In every dream I had last night, I was at some point in a building that connected the different parts of the building by a long hallway. Like 5 or 6 dreams at some point in a building with this same layout. The hallway had floor-to-ceiling windows to the north and a wall to the other side. Very clean, bright natural light from the windows, vaguely institutional with that white-ish linoleum and nondescript paint. Each dream had different people, different kinds of rooms in the building (a shoe store, a children's theater, a storage room), different destinations (sometimes a room in the connecting hallway at the end of the long one, sometimes the exit door, sometimes I'd just be somewhere else once I reached the end of the hallway). I was moving around the building in all directions, but only actually dreamt walking the hallway from west to east, which the interwebs say is the direction of new beginnings.

The content of each dream was so very different (in one I exited and started walking home--to the east-- and an iridescent alien ship showed up in the sky), but the building and especially the hallway was the same. Can't quite figure that one out.

Weekends are so long sometimes. Kid is not in daycare, which limits some options (like a nap), and I don't feel like doing chores, and nothing else sounds fun or feasible. I miss my pre-COVID options. My wife is having a bit of a depressive episode too, which makes everything harder. She's starting with an EMDR therapist next week, so I'm hopeful that reprocessing some stuff will help her feel better soon.

What if it’s not symbolism? What if it’s—gasp!—an allegory?

Which is like asking, "What if it's not a fruit? What if it's - gasp! - an apple?" Allegories are symbolic.

Wow within 2 hours of a low developing, and despite the weather bureau saying it was a low risk, a cyclone formed. It is now heading for just north of is but that could change, its one of thos eerratic systems. It looks likely to cross near the small town who has been hit by 3 cyclones i the last 12 years and the town that the majority of insurers wont insure houses. The town was devasted last time that the said the rest of the world could **** off and they would rebuild themselves. They even resisted when the army and volunteers and prime ministers turned up to help. That was when prime ministers always rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in not our current lazy pm.

Two different kinds of potato, but the one on sale is the answer?

But symbols are not necessarily allegorical. Look it up.

I don’t know why I bother to make jokes here.

Whoa. You’re good. I didn’t even mention the cows and sheaves lining the hallway.

You were suggesting that something could be allegorical without being symbolic which is a categorical mistake. Of course something can be symbolic without being allegorical, that wasn't my point.

Anyway, don't be glum, chum. You are good at jokes. "Look it up" is a good joke. It implies I don't how metaphors work which is a rib-tickler for sure given my academic field.

I walked by a pet store earlier. Went in and looked at the animals up for adoption. Made me sadder about new cat and lone dog.

I know most people hugged my post last night, but it would be helpful to have some cheering comments back, if you can. Thanks.

Did your mother dognap them? I don't know the whole story, but I'd be pretty perturbed if my mother decided to keep my pets. She can get her own pets. If for whatever reason you can't get them back then feel free to go "shopping". There's plenty of dogs and cats out there needing a home. I'm sorry you're missing them though.

I even kind of get feeling a bit betrayed by the animals. I used to feel like a second class citizen in my own home with the dogs. Since my ex didn't work for many years, he spent a lot of time with the dogs and they sometimes seemed to like him better. I felt a little resentment at times, I must admit, towards both him for treating the dogs better than me, and the dogs for being more chummy with him.
