My sessions usually start within a minute or two of the arranged time and should be 50 minutes but they usually go over by a few minutes and it’s not uncommon for them to be between 55-60 minutes. I’m the last appt of the day and my T quite often encourages me to just sit quietly together and just ‘be’ for a couple of minutes at the end which means we go over. There has been a few times when I’ve panicked and apologised for going over time and he has said he was more concerned about ensuring I was ok than ending on time as finishing the session when I was triggered or upset would be unethical, so he’s fairly flexible for allowing an extra 10 - 15 minutes which I’m extremely grateful for.

I’m usually the last patient of the day. The website I found T on said sessions were 50 minutes, but he always kept me 60. If he doesn’t have someone after me, we go over by 10-15 minutes. A couple of times we went over by almost half an hour, which made me feel both guilty and elated.

About clocks, the only clock that my therapist has in the office is a rather large statement piece that is hung above the couch where clients sit. It’s unfortunate that I can’t see it because it’s actually pretty cool. I wear a Fitbit so since I’ve been sitting for the majority of the hour, it vibrates at the 50 minute mark to remind me to walk. That’s sufficient for my time keeping purposes.

From what I can remember, T has never cut a session short. In addition, she sometimes goes over with me, depending on my emotional state.
