Possible trigger:

I used to feel reasonably ok talking about suicidal ideation with my T, but since her diagnosis it's become really difficult. Knowing how much she loves life and wants to live, and there I am wanting to tell her how much I want to die. It's not right is it, I can't do it.
On the surface she'd probably say she was ok with it, but I worry about how she really feels inside.
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea starting again with her after all.

I used to be afraid of this too for this subject and others. I always felt like I was tainting L. She always reassured me that I wasn't. I started asking about her experiences and thoughts on it. That really helped. I don't feel like I'm tainting her anymore.

I hope you can work through this with your T.

Possible trigger:

I find it helpful to think of suicidal thoughts without any plans as a somewhat crude coping strategy. It's an expression of my emotional pain being so intense that being dead seems like the only way to get any relief.

In that sense it isn't really a bad thing or a scary thing, just a thought that maybe I can replace with more constructive coping strategies. I am guessing your T understands and has compassion for your struggles, rather than judging you for being in such pain. But it's probably worth asking about it, if this is something that's coming up for you.

Possible trigger:

What about suicidal thoughts with plans?
At what point does a therapist have a duty to act re a client's suicidal thoughts? Obviously if risk is imminent, but what if it's just that plans have been set in motion? If the method is decided upon but not yet obtained. If there is a vague time frame but not a specific date. Would they be obliged to act then?

It all depends on how twitchy/over-reactive they are. You decide what to tell them.

It's not about her being over reactive as there's virtually no chance of getting hospitalised in the UK due to lack of beds, so it would probably mean seeing home treatment team; but having 3rd parties forcibly involved would cause all kinds of problems domestically. It's a no-win situation. Screwed if I reach out and ask for help, screwed if I don't.
