I had thw weirdest experience falling asleep last night i could hear Movin Out by Billy Joel in my head then it moved on to The Stranger and Just The Way You Are and i heard most of The Stranger album before i could go to sleep. I havent listened to in years and when i try to sing it consciously i stumble over words but this was like hearing a recording. I also could not distract myself from it either .Brains are weird.

My cat would probably be ok with doing the sort of "dancing" people do when they're trying to soothe a fussy baby. He generally likes being held, but I don't think he'd be a fan of any sort of spirited or rambunctious movement. My dogs do seem to enjoy that sort of performance, both as the audience and as participants.

New cat would let me pick her up but complain mightily about it. Now she’s chosen to live with my mother, who thinks cats have a right not to be picked up.

I have one ancient cat who doesn't really like being picked up or even sitting on laps. He likes being petted at times. The younger inherited cat is a giant bully who is a lap cat but he hates being picked up and he is not decrepit so dancing with him would be a bit challenging

Old man cat has never enjoyed laps or being picked up. He's far too dignified for that. Except on the rare occasions he'd forget he's probably a furry person and not one of the pets, then he'd let me cradle him like a baby. He's awfully creaky these days and clearly doesn't like being held at all, but he'll hop up onto the couch and sit right next to me, which is as close to a lap cat as he's gotten in his life.

Are you guys watching these you tube cats with their talking buttons? Russell is amazing, he is head of household. Im starting to feel sorry for cats who dont have access to these buttons - they just sit there and pathetically mew over and over again. But then i feel the finite number of word buttons limits the cats universe.

I was away for 13 days and my big cat slept on the bed with me last night. He never does that, even though it's a queen bed and there's plenty of room! He's definitely glad to have momma back home. So is my smaller cat, but she always sleeps on top of me. No dancing for either of them, though!

I got some of those buttons for my cat but haven't got around to doing anything with them yet.
ETA - I won't say my cat is a bad communicator, but I don't always know why he's throwing a tantrum. And I want my dogs to be able to tell me what kind of meat they want for dinner. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. I haven't noticed any of my pets having trouble training me. I seem to be quite biddable where they are concerned

Helen doesn't mind being picked up but Amelia minds terribly. Helen is turning into (slowly) a terrific lap sitter. Amelia probably will never be a lap cat. Amelia I have to chase around to even get close enough to pet her. Helen follows me into the bathroom then demands to be petted while I am trying to do my business. I have a feeling Helen wouldn't mind being picked up and danced with though I have never tried it. She also lets me carry her like she is a baby which is how I carry her to her food for breakfast and dinner.

Guinea pigs, not cats, but my Amelia also hates being picked up, and I have to chase her. Lexie isn't a big fan of it either, but it's generally much less effort to get her. I know for them it partly comes from being prey animals that could potentially be eaten by birds of prey, so the idea of hands coming to grab them from above is terrifying at an instinctive level. I generally have the best success picking them up if I get them to go into one of the "hides" they have (padded cave things), then picking that up. I admit I have danced while holding them before--they did not seem into it!

We were talking about birthdays in session today, as mine is at the end of this month. Dr. T was saying how his sister-in-law celebrates hers the entire month, treating herself to things, saying (all month) that she's having "birthday wine," etc. He said for him, he just marks off 2 weeks of depression around the day on his calendar. I asked if he shaded the weeks in blue, and he said he puts a different sad-face emoji on each day.
I'm pretty sure he was joking about the emojis, but the other part felt like a disclosure. Especially because from some things he's said, he struggles with the idea and side effects of aging. |
