Desert Hearts is a lesbian movie from the 80s - it was one of the first girl doesn't end up with a man at the end movies. And it had Mrs. Roper from 3's company in it.

I have never watched a whole episode of Downton Abbey -- I have recently figured out the story by watching youtube clips. I couldn't sit through a whole hour of the whining and drear. I do love the clips of Maggie Smith. How many people have I wanted to tell "You’re a woman with a brain and reasonable ability. Stop whining and find something to do"

Solidarity, sister.

I figured out what Desert Hearts was. It was the Spratts and Carsons and Potsherds that puzzled me. I thought it might be the human cast of “Mr. Ed.”

On another topic, my mother’s birthday is later this week. The same day is the probate hearing. Then a memorial luncheon organized by my aunts.

I am not looking forward to that day. When I emailed Info about this, her response was “firsts are always painful.” But that’s only one of the things bothering me, as anyone with a gram of insight would have recognized.

Good ol’ Info.

I rarely watch popular shows when they are first shown. I love allie mcbeal but watched it years after the series ended. The same thing with hill street blues - there was a law school bar hsb watching gathering every week when I was in law school. I watched it about a decade later. I love watching things on dvd or recorded because I can fast forward through all the boring parts

There was another lesbian movie that came out a few years later- Clare of the Moon - and it was truly awful -awful acting awful writing and everyone leaving the theatre wanted or did light a cigarette as we left -they smoked a lot in the movie -but we were young and it was so refreshing to see girl gets girl and again doesn't end up with a man at the end (all those 50's pulp novels - see Beebo Brinker for example. Then there were the adverb laden Katherine V. Forrest novels - for example Curious Wine but girl got girl there as well)

Is this Downton Abbey we are talking about? I couldn't get past the episode when someone died in someones bed and they were trying to move the body in a pathetic re enactment of Fawlty Towers and the plot was awful and the next episode didn't get any better

It was really more about me being a minion to the pets like the butler -it was not really a discussion of the actual show.

Daf - oh, the Pamuk episode! I guess you either loved it or hated it! It clinched it for me. I was a little italian catholic schoolgirl all over again - i felt terror! It was totally not primal. It's what had been taught to me. But yeah it felt primal. Wow.

@@ - the luncheon sounds like a nightmare to me. Then again, the big wake luncheon we had for my mother was really the only tolerable part of the whole deal for me. One, my canadian aunt(-in-law) was sat at my table and she is the only human in the family. Two, it was held in my old church bldg, so that had a lot of good memories for me. I used to clean the wax off the candles, back when i was gonna be a nun, 8th grade-ish.That smelled sooo good.

Good ol’ Info.

I think her insight should be measured in milligrams instead... (sorry, science editor). Both the hearing and luncheon sound very stressful.

My H has a bunch of Canadian cousins (Irish Canadians). They're lots of fun--came down for our wedding (danced the whole reception--plenty of beer/wine was also involved) and also for some family things.

I was trying to read The Price of Salt recently—it was around the time my mother was first hospitalized—and couldn’t get into it. Is it worth trying again?

Tattoo uploaded by Kaitlynn Haught • My first tattoo #firsttattoo #SemiColon #kitty #cat #wrist #wristtattoo • 614054 • Tattoodo

I am getting my first tattoo on July 2nd. I wanted to do it before my birthday but they didn't have a time that would work for me.

The semi colon is because of my struggles with mental illness, self harm, and suicide and the kitty cat whiskers are because my kitty cats help me through it.

I'm getting it on the inside of my wrist. I will have to do the left one because the right one is too messed up with scars. I messaged the shop and asked them if they would do it even though I self harm and he was like, yeah no problem.

I will have to hide it from my parents because they are anti-tattoo but I am looking forward to it. My sister and my niece are going to get the semi colon (without the cat whiskers) for me.

I talk to my T tonight. I am kind of stressed about it since I relapsed last week. We talked about it last week but it was the same day that I did it so obviously I wasn't in the best state of mind. Then the next day my GP tried to have me 5150-ed because of the voices and the self harm. So that was a lot to process so I am looking forward to my T appointment. But I am stressed about it too.

Love Downton Abbey. It's one of those series I occasionally rewatch just for fun.

I liked the recent movie - well done. Had to laugh at my son though. He took me to see it on my birthday and he has never watched the series so he was completely lost.

His take: Professor McGonagall and Professor Umbridge make up with each other, and the gaping plot hole about the leaking roof (did it ever get fixed?) annoyed him. LOL.

So, I just got home from a week of scoring AP essays. Now I'm packing again to spend a few weeks with my sister and visit my dad. AirBnB, a wine tour, beach driving, a stained glass museum, and lot of authentic Mexican food will be involved.

Hugs, Kit, I hope it goes well.

And I like the tattoo you'll be getting! I've thought about getting one before, maybe a small ladybug (they tend to be good omens for me) or possibly a butterfly that incorporates the semicolon. But I have trouble with needles (shots, getting blood drawn--vasovagal reaction), so not sure how I'd deal with getting a tattoo!

I wish my therapist wasn't on vacation. I'm having a hard time emotionally with my recent health issues and I could really use some support right now. He told me I could email him, but... You know how that thought process goes.
