What I got out of therapy today is that I should be a politician

We were going over “checking facts” and she said this is a struggle for me and those around me because not only can I convince myself a specific horse is a dog, I can convince other people that too and sometimes she ends session questioning herself

She’s kinda the only therapist on the team I’m assigned to (and I do need my CM and pdoc), but should I just straight up quit if she’s just going to go along with what I say?

Seriously, as long as she is aware of it, is how we have always played stuff like that.

When I read your post, I didn’t think she’s going along with what you say, I thought your T was complementing you on your powers of persuasion, but was also gently challenging you to reconsider your thinking. Horses are not dogs.
Thanks for this!

Hmmm, without hearing from your T, I'm not sure I can answer. After all, what if you're trying to persuade us that your T is useless?

Well, seriously, if you spend most of the time using your power of persuasion to deflect, you might need someone who can cut through all that if you want to make progress.

Do you think you use persuasion as a defensive strategy to protect yourself from difficult topics?

And what if you really wanted to persuade the new T and couldn't?

Ooh, he's asking the tough questions!

I think it's because at the same time I'm trying to justify myself/thoughts/feelings/behaviors and it helps if I can get someone else on my side.

If I had a different T I couldn't convince of half the crap I do now, I guess it would depend on how he/she approached it. I'd probably at least feel invalid and like a failure though.

There's no need to justify anything that originates from within, especially feelings. Or so I've heard.
