So I called my pdoc yesterday about some medication questions. Someone in the office called me back and said that she would give him a message to call me and that it would be late in the afternoon when he was done with his appointments, but that he would call. No call.

So I called and left a voicemail early this morning asking if I need to just make an appointment or if he will call me back about my questions. No call today either.

I don't know what to do, and I am in a bit of medication limbo here. I have skipped a dose and am starting to feel the withdrawal effects. Is it unreasonable to expect a response? This is a new pdoc, by the way.

I am beginning to think the only way I am going to get an answer is to call and get the doctor on call, but that is for emergencies, and this is not an emergency. I am growing increasingly agitated and paranoid that I have done something to offend pdoc and he now hates me, or that I am somehow being tested, like he is waiting to see how I respond to not being called back. (Do they do that kind of thing?)

What do I do? Call again tomorrow and see if I get a return call from someone in the office?

Thanks.

Keep calling. He's not doing his job. I hope you get a call tomorrow. When you do call tomorrow, be sure to inquire as to his policy about returning med calls. She should not be telling you he will return your call, if she knows he won't.

Calling the on-call doc is ok and doesn't have to be an emergency. Just explain the situation, he won't return your many calls, and you need an answer. Then maybe your pdoc's on-call pdoc will light a candle under his butt to get him to handle his patients during the day, so he/she doesn't have to at night.

In the meantime, why don't you give your pharmacist a shout and ask him/her your question?

If you don't get any satisfaction from your new pdoc, you may have to look for a "newer" pdoc.

Good luck!
Best,
Okie

PS I just read this post and I've totally messed up all the pronouns, but I hope you get my message in spite of this!

Jully...wow, your pdoc is not being very professional. My pdoc always calls me back. Sorry you are going through this...I might consider a new pdoc--one I can trust to be there for me when I need them.

Thanks to both of you for the responses. I left another (less kind and patient) message, and both pdoc and his assistant called me back. Apparently he had tried to call but was dialing the wrong number.

What a relief!
