My T recently moved into a new office and every time I go in there the place has been completely rearranged & decorated, which is disconcerting. I can't even compliment her on it because she shares an office with someone else and claims that everything belongs to the other person, which I find a little strange.

at any rate... with a new year coming up, let's do a little redecorating. I vote to get rid of the bedspread that they have thrown over a rather worn couch, the spread is always off kilter and I continually suppress the urge to go straighten it... how about you?

Hum - I think maybe a little plaque on the corner of the couch where I always sit that says "Reserved for Client of the Year: Earthmama"

oh yeah, i hear you. at one point last year my pdoc's office got redecorated. there was an ugly rug thrown in and a painting hanging just behind the client's chair... for the docs to look at obviously when they got bored. i was scared of the painting because it was literally behind my head and kind of hanging loose - scared it would fall off and hit me at any second.

i told pdoc they were ugly and he said it was the other lady that shared his room that brought them in. one month later they were gone, though .

my pdoc has two places i see him - one in his consulting room, the other in the hospital. for the consulting rooms - i would like his eeyore plush toy to be visible again, and not hiding in the cupboard. for the hospital rooms - a bloody box of tissues would be nice!! i was about to start crying one session when we realised there weren't any tissues in the entire room. how wrong is that?!

Oh I would definitely put the classic analysis couch in there. Each office at the old agency had one. I only used it once and it was pretty powerful, but scary.

As recently as yesterday (when telling T about erotic feelings), I said to him, "Ahhhh, what I wouldn't give for that couch right now." (Meaning that I would rather lay on the couch so I could freely discuss with him, rather than look at him-- not that I would want to lay on the couch with him. Well, actually I would, but that's besides the point).

Yeah, so I would want the couch in there. T says, "Turn your chair around." I said, "I'm not going to look like some asshole talking to the wall."

Otherwise, I could care less. We aren't even in the same room from week to week. It varies. As long as T is there, and there are at least two chairs, I'm good to go.

my t back home needs a plant or two or maybe even three. something living. some kind of 'things survive what gets spoken about in here'. maybe even a fish.

the rug on the floor is very... acrylic. a nicer rug would be nice for me since i spend so much time looking at it.

a bookcase with cool books would be nice.

stuff to make it feel more homey and lived in, i guess. maybe a perminent computer on the desk or something. it just feels... transitory.

paintings would be nice, too. and it would be terrific if the central heating didn't make such a racket pumping through the vent in the floor... at present he needs to put a cushion over it so he can hear me lol.

tis ok though. better than a more sterile consult room and i guess the chairs / couch is comfy enough...

I was enough when i realised you could see someone was sitting in the clients chair through the frosted glass at my old T's office - just the outline of course not the details - but - I had always thought i had a solid wall against my back - then after that i felt vulnerable - dumb but true

Lol When I first met with my new T. I walked in the room and was like woah...this room is tiny. I didn't tell her that just thought it. It contains three arm chairs, one in each corner, the free corner is where the door is.

I chose the chair in the corner closest to the door, though the other one is a little shorter and looks much more comfy. I'm thinking of switching chairs soon lol....

She has her chair....told me up front that that was the chair she sits in.
There is a small end table between each chair, and she has three little table clocks, so the time can be watched from each chair lol...

I think one thing I liked, which some may not, is that there is no window in it, and it's not very bright in the room, just table lamps, and she always has a candle burning.
Since its a little darker in there it makes ime feel more comfy Maybe its because I feel like I am more hidden lol..

woah - i would *not* handle not having something solid against my back. whenever i get into T's office, i push the chair right up against the wall. i think he gets a bit offended - i don't want to sit near him or something - but i don't care. i like having something solid behind me.

pdoc's office is a bit funny in that there is a coridoor bit where the door is, and then the room opens up. so you can't see the door from where you sit. i feel a bit funny about it, but i trust pdoc and know he would keep me safe is someone walked in.

hangingon - i totally need windows in my therapy rooms! where else to look when things get difficult? LOL.

lol deliquesce.....the floor, I typically look at the floor or play with my jacket zipper, I always keep my jacket across my lap....sometimes I will glance up at the clock and if T is talking to me I try my best to look at her unless the convo is hard.

Sometimes when I am talking I stare of to the left and the right of the room, when I am talking I don't look at her.

the worst thing is a structural fault, really. the toilet is right next to the office and you can hear people go and hear when they flush. yuk. that really gets to me. i hate using the bathroom there and actually use a fairly disgusting public bathroom (only other options) at the local shops because I DON"T WANT HIM TO HEAR ME PEE.. :-(

Am I a total nerd that I wouldn't change anything? Seriously, I love her office. I think I love the eclectic comfort of it all....But my favorite is the great windows with views of wonderful trees...

oh gross, kj. i would totes not use that bathroom too. the bathroom at my T's place doesn't have a lock on it, gives me the creeps. but i only go in there to fix up my hair - LOL.

hangingon - the floor at my pdoc's office is patterned with little dots. i do this bad thing where i start counting dots all the time, so looking at the floor is no go. i'm actually very bad when it comes to eye contact. i barely look at my T (only when he looks away) but with my pdoc i am better.

T's office is pretty nice. There is a couch and two chairs. I usually sit on the couch, it's easier for me to stay grounded because my feet reach the floor. I would get rid of the blanket that is on the couch. It was a new addition mid-way through this year and I don't like it. Blankets are for sleeping, it kind of creeps me out.

I would put the crayons in a nicer box . They are in an old shoe box. I might also add some legos or sometihing else to play with -- LOLOL.

That's about it! I like T's office--it's comfy.

oh, i have an update for pdoc's briefcase. he currently carries a toy gorilla around with him (lol) and it looks like this:
redecorate T's office for 2009

anyway, he says that his gorilla has social anxiety disorder but gets a bit lonely, so i found him a friend:
redecorate T's office for 2009

i'll give it to him when i see him next. he says that his gorilla (he's given it a name and everything) keeps him sane when he talks to his difficult clients. he hides it behind the tissue box when he's in the office, but otherwise it hides in his briefcase.

My T's current office is really nice, as was his last one. His office had a really exquisite staircase in it in a dream I had last week. I thought that was interesting Unfortunately, he was totally ignoring me in the dream (not IRL) but I guess since I remember the stairs I must have enjoyed the atmosphere. EM's idea was great! I think I've earned the craziest patient of all time award. As my award, I should get a parking space and be able to reserve my favorite couch in the waiting room. Other than that, I wouldn't change anything. Well, except for myself . . .

aww, thank you P7. i'm a bit nervous because i've been seeing pdoc for 4 years but this is my first gift to him. but really, it's a gift to Didier (the gorilla), so pdoc can't refuse, right?

Didier is there for my protection. pdoc said he will send him around to old T to box his ears if he hurts my feelings again. Didier is only a recent addition the family - he popped up about a month ago, but now he features in all our conversations. I worry that pdoc is going a little insane... LOL.

I need to think up a name for the new gorilla. Any ideas? The best I could come up with was Prince. Didier and Prince? hmmm...

I would like to redecorate T's office with a 5'X5' portrait of me, autographed by... me.

And, I'm thinking one of these instead of a couch:
