at any rate... with a new year coming up, let's do a little redecorating. I vote to get rid of the bedspread that they have thrown over a rather worn couch, the spread is always off kilter and I continually suppress the urge to go straighten it... how about you?

MY T NEEDS MORE TINKER TOYS!
Maybe some Silly Putty would be nice too.

My T must be some sort of a interior designer or something because I can't really say I'd change anything about his office style or furniture. He moved offices about six months ago and I'm still not quite used to it. The couch is on the other side (not a FREUD couch, a two-cushion couch) from the old office. I'm still disoriented!! Mehhhhhhh

Oh, I wouldn't know where to start. lol

Goodbye cluttered shelves of toys.
Goodbye cluttered desk top.
Goodbye nondescript pic in my line of vision; replacing it with lovely pic in T's line of vision.
Goodbye clock that pressures me with with it's measuring time and missed opportunities.
Goodbye cheap plastic parsons table with the kleenex box.
Hello nice table and an offer of tea.
Hello soft comfy chair.
Hello dimmer lights.

Idk. Not in a great place right now and I might even redecorate with a new T. lol. jk--wouldn't trade her for the world. i think.

redecorate T's office for 2009

Del -
Are you sure this is a gorilla? Maybe you can call him Sasquatch, lol. I think your T would be absolutely honored to receive this gift. I know I would,
Thanks for this!

I see 2 T's.

One works at the university I go to. Her office is fairly small compared to my previous T's office. It has 2 very comfy reclining/rocking leather chairs. Her desk and desk chair. A little bookshelf. And a little "side table" that is between us against the wall. I sit in the chair that faces the window.

Sometimes, I wish it was bigger so that there could be a couch. To lay back and relax. But she's very big on eye contact and with her it makes me comfortable to do so. So it's kinda a good set up.

--
My second T has a huge office space. There's an open space with several chairs, a small book shelf with some pamphlets, and a corner table - which is where I typically do therapy.

Attached to that is a smaller, partly open space with lots of pillows and beanbags - with a large window. There is a small couch and rocking chair for kids that she sees. Typically my little alters use that space when they want to feel calm and close.

She also has a closed off play room attached. It's a huge space filled with all sorts of toys - blocks, houses, dolls, teddies, action figures, a white board, coloring materials, and miscellaneous toys. My littles like to also go in there to do play therapy to get trauma information to her.

I'm not sure I'd change much at her office. I like it very much. I like the smaller place with the pillows - it's our little safe haven.

lol, i had to look up what sasquatch was . over here, i've only heard of it referred to as big foot or yeti. thank you for your encouragement about giving him this present, now that i'm working over my nerves, i'm getting pretty excited about it! ive never given pdoc a pressie or even a card before... but this feels right, because it's something we share. he hasnt introduced Didier to anyone else becaus Didier gets anxious. haha.

wow that is powerful. you really are a poet Kim!

I read somewhere about a T who was given an office to use which used to be a gynecologist's examining room and right in the center of the room was one of those big tilting chairs with stirrups. Every time I go see T, I give thanks all over again that it's not her office. I cannot IMAGINE having that thing anywhere around me, what were they thinking of?! yikes

T's couch is too low - I'd replace it because its embarrassing to practically be struggling to stand up while she's already standing and is waiting to open the door at the end of session.

There is an interestingly patterned rug and a painting that I've come to find so comforting to look at, that it is sometimes hard to concentrate on therapy. I've thought about getting the painting for home and see how it feels to look at it here.

Of course my T needs to replace that ugly impressionist face painting directly across from where I sit with my wonderful Christmas gift (LOL). Getting a cover for the ugly couch would be nice too.

for those of you who can remember...

I would like the sofa replaced with a "stereo egg chair" from the 70's

maybe throw in a few lava lamps...some shag carpet...and a fondue pot

Originally, I said I don't care about the decor of my T's office because we aren't even in the same office every week-- and even if there is a particular office that we stay in for many weeks in a row, it is not decorated by him. I said that all I need is my T and a chair.

Well. I have thought this over. Here's what the redecoration of 2009 will entail:

--Paint the walls a nice dark red. I love the warmth that this color gives a room.
--Coffee maker
--Small fountain to listen to the relaxing sound of running water during therapeutic silences.
--Fish tank
--Strobe light that would turn on to alert T to when the erotic transference feelings are kicking in.

My reg T has a great office. She has a painting I did for her called "the madness of the fourth of july" displayed and she is getting a frame for my newest creation called "the madness of a snowstorm" then she will hang it in her office. They are abstract art. The fourth of july one is a collection of shapes blending and stretching and adding to each other. I did it during the fourth of july weekend when I was having flashbacks brought on by fireworks. The new one I did is like a large painting with tons of small things hidden in the picture that are meaningful to me and maybe to her not sure. But its like one of those pictures where you look for the hidden smaller pictures. I do my best art when I am stressed and the snow storm was really stressfull.
My emdr T her office is boring and bare besides the eeyore I gave her because I told her she sometimes sounds like she would be a good T for the hundred acre woods. She says stuff like oh dear oh my good grief..lol
so for her office I would add lamps and rugs.

I really like my new Ts room. She has her desk etc in an alcove off to one side, and in the main therapy area are a comfy couch and two armchairs, with a coffee table in the middle. There are lots of windows, through which I can see my favorite place in town - the library - and sky. I love her curtains, too - soft, billowy fabrics held up by curtain rods of driftwood. Her room feels very safe, nurturing, and homely.

Things I would change - she specialises in sex therapy and there is always some book about sex on the coffee table. Definitely get rid of that. Also, she has no waiting room. Outside her office is the central stairwell and area that all the other offices in the building face on to. Eeek! I always come five minutes late so I won't have to wait there. Soon work will start on converting the office next door to hers into a waiting room, thankfully.

redecorate T's office for 2009

so i gave pdoc his present today . he couldn't stop laughing - said it was the funniest thing he'd seen for ages. the gorilla's arm moves, so he kept making it swing around and around and around. then we measured it's height against the other gorilla pdoc already has, and they are exactly the same height. pdoc was so excited, it was so sweet.

he asked me if i wanted to keep it so i had one to hang onto, but i said no they were meant to be friends together. so he said he'd keep it in his briefcase with the other one.

i see him again in 2 weeks and he said he'll come up with a name for him by then.

i saw pdoc on monday and he has named in max - short for maximillius. he's got it in his briefcase. he compared my depression to feeling leaden (like max) and me having a heart made of plastic (like didiere).

pdoc's nuts, right?

i'm actually doing quite good today, simcha. last day of work at one of my jobs, so it'll be nice to have some time off next week before uni starts again. i'm also feeling more optimistic about the new meds i'm on, so hopefully they will work for me soon.

actually, i might shoot you a pm tomorrow. question about meds you might be able to answer. in the meantime sending you lots of love and hugs. i like your new av .
