Hi! Welcome to pc. No, they don't have to write down everything you say and the only way they can turn you in is if you make a serious threat against someone else or to hurt yourself.

Hi camel2009, welcome to PC.

Most T's won't write down most of what you say. Some of them have recorders, but they have to tell you about them ... then they MAY transcribe them, but I doubt it. Most T's just take a few notes, either in session or just afterwards.

T's can only report you if a minor is being hurt/abused, or you're a danger to yourself or others. Saying "I'm mad at ______" is not one of those situations. However, saying "I'm mad at _________, and I'm intending on hurting them on ___(date/time)_____ with ______(weapon)______ " would likely be.

It would be really hard to write down everything that you say. Therapists have to keep notes, but they are more of a quick summary. Generally, less is better in the notes - like just enough so that they can remember what they need to remember.

They don't report things like feelings, like hating someone. Like CSC and Christina said, reporting is only if there is reason to believe that action is necessary to keep you or someone else safe. Such as abuse of a child or vulnerable person, or serious plans to hurt yourself or someone else.

They are not allowed to record you without your permission. If you don't want to be recorded, just say No.

Does your T write everything down, or have a recorder?

While it is up to the T to decide how best to do his/her job, when we have thoughts and feelings about something they do or don't do, we are welcomed and expected to talk about those feelings and thoughts in therapy.

My T doesn't write anything down except she makes notes about dreams I share with her. She remembers *everything*. She's amazing.

Who would T tell about someone hating someone? That would be something to talk about to learn more about. Can you say more about why you are wondering about this?

My psychologist just writes notes - not all the time.
I don't think she has a recorder though.

The only time she told anyone something I told her - was just to the psychiatrist - well I hadn't started seeing him then.
