If we confuse romance addiction, relationship addiction, and sexual addiction with one another we will not develop the information and understanding about each specific addiction that we need to allow each to get proper recognition and treatment.

Any addiction has elements in common with all other addictions, and any addiction also has its own specific issues and problems that need to be treated specifically.

The author believes that no interpersonal or pseudo-relationship addiction has anything to do with love. These addictions may have something to do with the illusion of love, but are ways of avoiding love and intimacy.

The romance addict does not really care about the other person, they are in love with the idea or romance. It is an illusion, an ideal, or fantasy. They are looking for the "buzz" or "risk" of the new romance or romantic experience.

See 'Escape From Intimacy', Chapter 2 by Anne Wilson Schaef, (c) 1989.

What is your concept of love?

That sounds a bit like an ex of mine. She was only interested in a sordid affair it turned out, even though she went through all the romantic motions like a soppy teenager on heat.
