I just got married about two months ago to the best friend, I have ever had. Timmy and I been through hell together and I don't know what I'd do without him. Yet... For weeks I've been having all these dreams about an old ex of mine, Jason. I just found out yesterday that he has been in town for that exact amount of time. I'm hoping he goes back to where he's stationed before I run into him, but... I don't know what to do until them. I'm so depressed because I feel like I'm letting my husband down and I'm worried that I might lose myself and call him or something, which I would never do in my right mind. it's just that whenever these dreams start happening I get lost in my head somewhere, almost like I run away and hide so as not to have to be there when it all comes crashing down. Worst of all, this whole mess has me so turned upside down that I found myself about to SI yesterday. I don't know how it all happened. it's such a blur. I didn't end up doing it, but I know I can't hold it off forever. I know my husband would be my rock if the situation were something else, but... I can't bring myself to talk to him about this one. not this. he'd be so broken hearted about it. he's always felt inferior to jason. Not for any good reason, but just because he's so insecure and I have such a complex past with him...
I want him out of my head, the same way he is out of my life. I told him never to talk to me again and that we couldn't be friends and I haven't heard from him. but how do I tell my dreams to stop coming? I love my husband more than anything, but I'm scared of my mistakes... any advice?

I dream about people I've had relationships with in the past and sometimes I wake up and think about them for a few hours or even days, but it is something I know is part of the past and I know that acting on anything I dream about would ruin my present relationship with my husband. I know its impossible to dictate your dreams, but you can control how you act upon them when you are awake.

I would say, if you run into him, you run into him. It doesnt mean you love your husband any less. And, also, you cant control what you dream about unless you are lucid dreaming.
You have the ring on your finger, if you run into your ex he is going to see it and if he is any decent person he'll keep an emotional distance. Be cordial if you bump into him, but let it pass like wind that blows for a bit and then dies down. It's impermanent, a memory from the past that IS a part of you, but not a part of your present. I think you know that. We know you love your husband. ![]()

In depression . . . faith in deliverance, in ultimate restoration, is absent. It is hopelessness even more than pain that crushes the soul.-William Styron |
