I am so done with people! More specifically - I'm so done with grad students. Why is everyone so cynical?
Every Friday I have stats ALL DAY with these 2 others in my dept. One of them I actually considered a friend until recently. Now he is annoying the hell outta me. Today he told me that it's fine that I did better on the exam than him but if I would have done better than her (we'll call her A) then that would have just been weird. Like I'm just not good enough to do better than her on a friggen exam?! After lab they are *****ing and moaning about how terrible this country is. I told them that they should feel lucky to be born in a place where they are even ALLOWED to voice their opinions! They told me I was comparing apples to oranges (developed countries to under-developed countries). I said that didn't matter - we're all humans. And they just kept going that every other European country is so much better than ours. And, of course, I don't know anything because my family isn't rich enough to send me all over Europe (they have both traveled everywhere and I haven't). They were just being so cynical. So I finally snapped. I just yelled at them in front of everyone on the sidewalk. I screamed "THANKS! FOR A SECOND I FORGOT WHY I NEVER SPEAK MY OPINION OR TRY TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING! THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME! I WILL NEVER SAY ANOTHER WORD EVER AGAIN!" and just stopped talking to them. I'm so SICK OF THEM! How do I let immature jerks like this get under my skin? It's like they only want to complain. Nothing is ever cool bc it's always mainstream. Everything is terrible. No food is good. No music is good. Everything is "crap" unless THEY say it's not. I HATE that I have to be in class with them. I don't know how to not let them get under my skin! |

Don't you just hate that kind of elitist arrogance??? Good grief!! Just because they have been to Europe doesn't mean they have a good idea about how it is to live there. There are some things in some countries that make more sense and seem to work better than what is offered here in the states. But that's going to happen no matter where you go. It certainly doesn't mean that the country is better than the US in the grand scheme of things. I understand why you lost it with them but let me tell ya, you are waisting your time and breath on people who don't care what you think and won't change their minds no matter how right you may be. I actually feel sorry for these kinds of folks as they truly are unhappy people and haven't got a clue what it means to be happy. Those are the "grass is always greener" folks. Maybe the next time you see them in class you can look at them with pity in your eyes (saying absolutely nothing to them), kind of shake your head and sigh too. ![]() ![]() |
