I have an odd request.

I know someone who is in a LOT of trouble with three major gangs. There are elements of drugs, sex (sleeping with a head's daughter) and various other things.

It is a friend's close relative and as I have a crim research background she asked me for advice.

I am checking out any avenues that I can but basically one of the gangs has put a 'minder' on him, they have already beaten the c**p out of him and

There must be some way to extract people from these situations ... but I have no idea.

Any suggestions? Even just on what to say to my friend - it is very difficult for her.

basically the person in the gang has to want to get out and most times they have to go through the same stuff getting out as they did to get in. There are community agencys and the police can help a person get out of the gang if they want to too. but it all depends on the person in the gang. if they don't want out theres no way you can force them to give up the gangs.

It is a situation where he seems trapped - I am guessing a drug/financial obligation.

The police don't want much to do with it.

She is flying back home from the UK to try and deal with it :/

Dear Sun, Hey, hard one. The only thing I ever heard of, was to get them out of the area. Clean slate, unknown, start over.

California is about to ZAP the guy ("Tookie" Williams) who started the whole gang thing way back when-- Dec 13th, unless Arnold commutes his sentence to life w/o parole. He's spent the last many years working to take the "bling" off gang life, try to head off what he srated. Written books, etc.. Seems to be a search for a sense of family and belonging, that is the first hook. They pay a high price to belong. Very sad and scarey situation. Best Luck.

I'd agree with Hilbunnyb.

If moving out is impossible and the gang won't let go it might be possible to buy him out, however that is an extremely risky strategy and might only serve to pinpoint a source of cash. If that sort of cash is available it might be better to knock the person out, stick them on a plane far away and keep their passport so he can't get back.

I've been around and know many people involved in gangs, some no longer living. Your friend who is in trouble does have punishment coming but the severity of his punishment depends on what he has done like for example, how much money he owes, (if he owes any). Also what they'll do with him depends on the toughness of the gangs since you said "major" gangs I'm thinking gangs that are well known. I suggest you tell your friend to move him out of the state, but like a pervious poster posted stated he has to be 100% committed to changing, especially if he is in a gang whether it's one of the ones he has trouble with or another, this will make things much harder.

Sometimes gangs go after family members if they can't get the person they want, so if it's possible everyone should move or at least be on the lookout, but this again depends on what type of trouble he is in, or how much money he owes.

IMO, the police are not a good idea you didn't mention the names of the gangs but well known gangs have ties within the police department. Also, the police can't protect him 24/7. Those who involve the police are considered "snitches" they don't live very long. This again depends on which gangs you are speaking of.
