i seem to have a problem keeping friends. i'm good at making friends, but ultimately something happens and it all falls apart - usually in disaster.

is there a name for this and/or is there some type of personality disorder that is more prone to this sort of thing?

borderline personality disorder?

you need to be chill and patient with friends. and don't make friends out of desperation, bc then it's like "you never even really liked them"

lots of people make new friends, sustaining new friendships is difficult for anyone. lower your expectations of these freindships. i suppose it can depend on where you make these new freindships. if we have one true and loyal freind then we have really found a treasure.
Thanks for this!

Hi there, my advice would be to be careful with friendships you make, I started a friendship four years ago with a man who came to repair my double glazing windows , it started off with casual texts the odd phone call, bit of flirting, occcasional meeting up for coffee, then four years on I am obsessed with him and now in massive debt due to giving him all my money to help and support him. But for some unknown reason, I would do anything for him and don;t think I could cut him out of my life completely. Its a mess.
Thanks for this!

thank you all for your comments. this is actually a good example of the way that i am, "in action" if you will. i didn't appreciate being told to "chill" in one of the replies, so i thanked the other two people and moved on. this is a classic example of the way that i act/react to things. is this part of the bpd? (which yes, i'm now leaning towards having.)

(and palemoss, i don't mean to not thank you - i actually do appreciate you helping me use this scenario as an example.)

Hi there again, like you I didnt like a particular comment i received from a member , so just hang in there, you will make new friends I am sure if that's what you want in life. My only word of warning is to not set high expectations, friendships can take years and then there is no guarantee that they will all be smooth running.Margaretrose
