If I start doing lunch dates, it would give me a lot of scheduling flexibility and I like that. But since I commute by bike, I won't have a car to go to a restaurant by myself; I will need to be picked up. I work at a really big and well-known company and if I ask to be picked up, my date would learn my place of employment.

Is it safe?

Dumb question time: Why can't you ride your bike from work to the restaurant? How would he find out where you work if someone picks you up? Are you worried your date would follow you?

As far as it being safe IMHO I think lunch dates are safer. Middle of the day more people around etc.

The problem is more getting in a car / being under the control of a stranger. Maybe lunch isn't doable.

Can you pick a place that is easy for you to bike to?

For me, I think it depends on the date. I would need more information on who the guy is you're considering going on lunch date with before saying if that's safe or not. If it's someone you know relatively well that you've decided to go on a lunch date with to get to know more, I'd say it's pretty safe. If its a new acquaintence, and someone you don't know, I wouldn't let them pick you up at work at all, but someplace more remote and unrevealing about your employer. Then again I probably wouldn't go on a date with someone that I didn't know well enough to feel safe with anyway. But that's just me.

I am paranoid about my bike being stolen, that is why. It is a cheap bike (under $300 from Amazon), but after investing so much money and time in fitting it at shop, putting a rack and panniers and a U-lock bracket and everything on it, I am a little reluctant to lock it near a restaurant. Even though I have a heavy, expensive lock.

But I see that self-transporting to the restaurant is the safest option.

No, no money for a cab...otherwise would have been the best option

I'd rather risk my bike being stolen as opposed to having someone I do not know well picking me up in a car, too many women get abducted that way.

Please be safe Hamster

Are you friends with any coworkers that drive? Maybe you could meet your date at a restaurant located near where a coworker is going to have lunch. Then you could ride with them and meet back at their car at a certain time.

We have a cafeteria onsite so coworkers do not go out for lunch. Otherwise it would have been a good option.
Thanks for this!
