I was thinking how my father always jokes, our family has athroughz when it comes to our mental health.
My father has undiagnosed ADD, my mother most definitely has an undiagnosed mood disorder. I am diagnosed bipolar 2 and GAD, my brother has been in and out of therapy from ADD, oppositional defiance disorder and depersonalization disorder. My sister has chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, my younger brother has anger issues. I feel as though my grandmother has undiagnosed BPD and my grandfather severe anxiety. My aunt on my mothers side has anxiety as well. My male cousin has a mood disorder and anxiety and my female cousin has ADHD with hypersensitivity. My adopted uncle also has a mood disorder and a history of drug use. There is also a history of bipolar in my dads side. Needless to say, holidays in my family are quite interesting. ![]() So anyone else not the only one in their family suffering from some sort of mental, or health issues?

My parents are deceased, but both of them were alcoholics. My very small family now is just very dysfunctional. I'm a recovering alcoholic (19 yrs sober), my son is in the very early stages of recovering from alcoholism, my daughter has issues which are undiagnosed and I'm not even sure what they are, although I believe she's depressed with anger issues. Why wouldn't she, when she was brought up with alcoholic parents (her father was an alcoholic too, although he didn't go into recovery and is now deceased).
So everyone was/is a mess in my family. ![]()

My Mom's parents were both alcoholics. Or maybe they were bipolar and self medicating? I have a few cousins with addictions and one who commited suicide. For most of my life though I have been the black sheep in the family.

Hi, I'm new. I created account so I can get help. My sister get angry too easily, and it increased after my dad and mom went back to take care of my grandma. I've been living with her since. She is very disrespectful to my parents by bringing her bf over for sex, and she always took his side when I say something to him. I'm 14 and the hs I'm going to is very hard, and I barely help with housework since my homework is too loaded. When she became pregnant, she went thru an abortion and her bf left her, and now she's pregnant again. I feel sorry for her sometimes, and she works as a banker. She can be violent when angry and has physically attacked me and my parents. My mom and dad knows how she acts like when she's mad and they tell me to just let her do what she wants. My dad is afraid of her, and I'm thinking about telling my counselor at school about her behavior. Can anyone help me?

Hello- I think it is a good idea that you talk to your counselor at school. Your sister may have some issues that should be delt with, if you don't mind me asking how old is she? I think you should also explain to your parents what is going on. It is not fair that you are being put into that situation. Good luck.

Well, my mother is what I call "old school bipolar" - the classic cycling of severe depression and mania. The mania is the worst.
My father has explosive rage disorder or whatever you call it. Bottom line he can't control his temper - at all. A really nice pairing with a bipolar ![]() My brother is an alcoholic who currently lives with them - having lost his job and family because of the booze. Nice. My grandmother, god bless her, likely has borderline personality disorder. Me? Sometimes I think I am a wonder for having come out of that requiring only $60,000+ in therapy. I'm lucky.

It seems to me I'm the only one in my family who hasn't been diagnosed with anything (lol)
![]() My mum has recently come off antidepressants after being on them for most of her life, through 2 bad marriages one of which I suspect was abusive although she won't talk about it. My 21 year old sister is currently depressed after her second ectopic pregnancy in two years, she was also depressed and suicidal as a teenager. My eldest brother (25) has anger issues, dyslexia and undiagnosed Aspergers and was depressed and suicidal as a teenager and self-harmed until very recently. My other brother (23) has Bipolar (not sure which type) and struggled with drug addiction throughout his teenage years. Nobody is sure whether the condition or the drugs came first but we believe it was the condition and the drugs were an attempt to self medicate. Although they are struggling, all of them have support through the family and are coping and improving. I am proud to be the aunt of three beautiful girls and they have shone a wonderful light into the darkening lives of my siblings. ![]() |
