Hi All,

I hate conflict and fighting, but the person who is supposed to be supporting me at the college campus is a terrible communicator. I'm teaching online from home for the summer.

This is the second time she has failed to inform me of a problem with the online teaching software, which impacted my ability to provide quality service to my students. Over the weekend, b/c I didn't know there was a problem with our new software, I unsuccessfuly spent time trying to access students' work from the website. The Summer course is very compressed, so I really don't have a lot of extra time to play around here.

I sent her several e-mails I believe Sat. evening, and then reached her by phone on Sun. She said in a snippy manner that she knew about the problem, and had reported the problem. Then she practically hung up in my ear.

Well I've reported both incidents to the Dean. I think she is trying to portray me as being technically incompetent, which I'm not. She just doesn't have the communication and leadership skills to take the program to the next level.

Anybody have any smileys having a boxing match?

Any and all support would be appreciated.

EJ

Hi EJ

I'm sorry I don't know what I would do if I was stuck in the same situation.

Good for you for speaking to the Dean, with any luck this woman will be straightened out ASAP!

And I found you some smilies...

Hi Nina,

My technical skills are more than adequate for teaching online. She is responsible for training new online teachers, and her communication skills are inadequate. She's also not very bright, and the answers she has given me don't provide the insight I want. I can manage without her being able to explain the system better, but I can't manage with her not informing me when there is a problem with the system, so neither I or one of my students will not be wasting our time. She seems completely clueless about how her lack of communication doesn't just impact me, but the students too!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrr!!!!!

Hugs,

EJ

Did you ask the Dean what to do? Maybe he/she can give you some insight on dealing with this woman. Have you heard any scuttlebutt on how she deals with other profs?

I'm sorry you are going through this.

Hugs,

Jan

Hi Jan,

I'm out of the loop with the other instructors right now, b/c I'm teaching online. Probably, the other instructors don't care as much about getting things back as quickly to the students as I do. Not saying that I'm better, it's just that when I do something I like to do it well.

I know the Dean is listening to me.

Thanks,

EJ

If a sit down discussion of your needs doesn't work, then a sit down with the dean. Perhaps having someone else be responsible for notifying you when a problem would circumvent the additional problem? Conflict at Work!

Hi All,

Did receive an e-mail response from my coworker at the college last night. Evidently, she is in our National Reserve. Anyway, this morning she sent me a way to access my students' work. What a relief. This was really easy to do, before we switched over to a new system last week. Oh well, at least I can get to my students' work now.

Thanks everyone for listening.

Getting it out on paper really helps.

EJ
