So Ive posted 3 times about my boyfriend.
I met him online 5 years ago. We stated dating almost 2 years ago.
We've spent a total of 5 month physically(in the same country) together and by the end of 2013, 9 months together physically.
We've decided to finally get engaged for a min of 2 years and max of 5 years.

Need opinions and advice. I'm happy and exciting and not double thinking it all. I'm VERY sure about my decision. We are both very sure.

I am unclear what you need opinions and advice about? If you are both happy and everything is going as you wish, what is causing you to ask for other people's opinions and advice?

I myself would get more time together, unless you are not expecting to ever be together 24/7. Living with someone full-time is quite different I think from having an online relationship. We can put up with people at a distance, don't have to put up with their being slobs when we're neatniks, for example (or vice versa) and don't know their expectations about being served by us (dinner must be on the table at 6:00 every night, oops!), all we have is words, not experience. It's easy to say "no matter what" when you haven't any/much experience with "what".

I'd get a whole lot of first-hand experience, live and see each other daily for a long (at least 6 months) period of time (no every other weekend), before I got engaged/married, if I ever plan to live with the person in that way in the future. If you are just going to have an on again/off again online marriage, that could be easy enough to do, you have already practiced it, why wait so long for the marriage?

It is really expensiive getting papers to legally move and stay in the other country. Before you move make sure you can create a support group of people besides him and look for potential places of employment. It will be lonely for you over the long term if you don't create this network. That's all I have to suggest.

OP, since I have not read your earlier posts, can you briefly describe the immigration and visa aspects of the relationshp.

He lives in the US and I live in Canada. He's coming to attend school in the fall with a student visa and maybe find a work with LMO and become a permanent resident. Only after he has his permanent residency, or I have a stable job we will get married and I will sponsor him.

That is ok. My concern was that someone might have been trying to obtain access to Canada via you, but since he is in US, I no longer have this concern.

Here's a suggestion from someone who has gone through this process - repeatedly.

If you are planning to apply, there are two ways you can do this in the family class:
- sponsorship of a spouse
- sponsorship of a conjugal partner

Word of advice...if you sponsor as conjugal partner, DO NOT submit any information to suggest that you are involved in any romantic way. CIC will essentially turn you down, assuming that you are engaged. You can not apply for immigration sponsorship and be approved as a fiance.

If you sponsor as a spouse, you can do so while he is still a student. I don't recall having to provide proof that you would be able to support him financially - it's different for spousal applications than other family class applications. But you can do an application from within Canada - that's the one that you would send to Vegreville, AB as opposed to Mississauga, ON.

If you have any questions about the process, feel free to message me. I have quite a bit of experience in this matter...
Thanks for this!
