Some people are really into unavailable men. He is both safe (in that all contact will be monitored) and unavailable in the most literal sense.

There's not reasons behind feelings sometimes. 7 years is a long time to wait.. she may just meet someone in the meantime. Was they together before he went inside?

I have a close friend whose son's girlfriend murdered a friend. She and two other teenagers murdered a teenage girl.
My friend's son's gf got a life sentence. Not sure if it was ever changed later. He did visit her (the prison was in San Diego and he lived in the Bay Area, so not frequently), but eventually moved on. The whole thing was extremely hard on everybody. On him, on his mother, on everybody. He was called to testify, too. But eventually he found a Romanian girlfriend who was not in prison. She was not too available, either, due to the LD nature of the relationship, but I think they have a plan to live together in London going to graduate school there. Or something like that - at any rate, way better than a life sentence... |

Sounds more like infatuation than love to me. If I were in your shoes, I'd just sit it out and let her go through it. If you get too down on her feelings then she will resent you, but I bet she will naturally tire of the visits and waiting. 7 years is a long time...

The reason she is so head over heels about him is because Prisoners have all the time in the world to dream up beautiful poetry, write about all of the sweetest things in the world, she is surely the light of his life and I'm sure he lets her know. BUT....when prisoners get out and they get jobs, friends, back to civillian life, it is almost impossible to keep that level of devotion alive and kicking, and real life will set in. I hope she knows this!~
