How do you respond when someone says they love you when you do not feel the same?

Ditto lol
The only thing I could think of is to say I don't feel that way it's a little soon for me. Or you could ignore it was said.

Don't ignore it but show appreciation.

Appreciation will sweeten the pill of rejection.

I've been put in this situation before as well and its really awkward! Maybe you could smile and give them a kiss? (Assuming you're in a relationship with them)

I started to type out the circumstances but its just too involved. Basically I was wanting a platonic friendship and said so but the guy wanted more and after three weeks he told me he loved me. I told him he couldn't love me because he didn't even know me yet but he insisted he did and got clingy and this went on for a few more weeks until I stopped answering his phone calls.

Thanks?
No, um...that's a really hard one. Do you think you COULD love the person and are just not there yet?

I said it before and got back, "You're so sweet."

How about "I think you're a beautiful person" and maybe add "I'm just not ready for love yet".

Try not to leave someone hanging when they've mustered the courage to say "I love you".

This happened to me once. I highlighted the things I appreciated about him first and then said that I was not ready to say it back. We went on a couple of more dates and I realized he could never be more than a friend. He wasn't happy about my reaction but later on he told me he was glad that I was honest. It's only fair to the other person to tell him/her the truth.
Thanks for this!
